WTRC (1340 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Elkhart, Indiana, and serving the South Bend metropolitan area. It is owned by Federated Media. The station airs a soft oldies and adult standards radio format provided by Westwood One's "America's Best Music" syndicated service, and is a Fox News Radio affiliate. On the air since 1922, WTRC is one of Indiana's oldest radio stations. It has a power of 1,000 watts, and uses a non-directional antenna. WNIL is an AM radio station located in Niles, Michigan and broadcasting to the Niles- Buchanan region airing a soft adult contemporary format. It broadcasts on AM frequency 1290 kHz and 107.5 MHz; it is under ownership of Marion R. Williams. History WNIL began its broadcasting activities in 1956 under an unknown format but in 1964, it was notable when Tommy James & the Shondells recorded their hit " Hanky Panky" (it was a summer hit in 1966 and the studio was located at Sycamore and 5th Street). In the 1990s, it dropped its music format in favor of sports programming. WRDI (95.7 FM, "Redeemer Radio") is a radio station broadcasting a Catholic talk format. Licensed to Nappanee, Indiana, WRDI serves the South Bend, Indiana market. History 95.7 signed on as WLRX on December 16, 1991 (the calls for the construction permit granted in 1990 had been WXJG, but the station was never on the air with those calls). WLRX broadcast ABC Radio/ SMN's StarStation adult contemporary format serving the Nappanee area under the name "Star 96," then segued to a Hot AC direction with local DJs as "Magic 95.7" and broadened its focus to include South Bend and Elkhart. It was during this time the station also changed hands from Indiana Star Broadcasting to Service Communications of South Bend. Regional Radio Sports Network
The Regional Radio Sports Network is a radio network that broadcasts high school and college sports in northern Indiana. History Regional Radio Sports first broadcast in 1992 on WWJY (now WXRD) in Crown Point, Indiana. In order to establish a footprint in the Michiana region, RRS soon joined forces with WAMJ in South Bend to create the first network. WAMJ was the first home for RRSN's coverage of Penn High School football, which now airs on affiliate WGCS. The network later added coverage of Bethel College basketball, baseball and softball to fill out the winter and spring. Since 2012, RRSN has partnered with the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Emmis Communications to produce the Indiana High School Sports Report that airs weekly around the state. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation. This leaves the original analog signal intact, allowing enabled receivers to switch between digital and analog as required. In most FM implementations, from 96 to 128 kbps of capacity is available. High-fidelity audio requires only 48 kbps so there is ample capacity for additional channels, which HD Radio refers to as "multicasting". The ''South Bend Tribune'' is a daily newspaper and news website which is based in South Bend, Indiana. It is distributed in South Bend, Mishawaka, north central Indiana, and southwestern Michigan. It has been named as a "Blue Ribbon Newspaper" (2006, 2016 and 2018) by the Hoosier State Press Association. It is the third largest daily broadsheet newspaper in the state of Indiana by circulation. ''The Elkhart Truth'' is a daily news organization based in Elkhart, Indiana, that covers Elkhart County in northern Indiana and was founded as a newspaper in 1889. History ''The Elkhart Truth'' was first printed October 15, 1889. It was founded by Charles G. Conn, who served as Elkhart's mayor, as well as a U.S. congressman. Additionally, Conn was the owner of musical instrument manufacturing empire C.G. Conn Ltd., which is sometimes referred to as Conn Instruments. In 1915, Conn's business interests were taken over by a group of investors headed by Carl D. Greenleaf. Shortly afterwards, Greenleaf and A.H. Beardsley purchased the newspaper from investors.
