WSSS-LP
WSSS-LP, UHF analog channel 25, was a low-powered television station licensed to Steubenville, Ohio, United States. The station was owned by Benjamin Perez. At one time, it was an affiliate of MTV2. History The station began transmitting as a low-power television station in May 1998 on channel 25 as The Box, an automated music video channel. Like most over-the-air stations airing The Box, WSSS-LP became an affiliate of MTV2 after The Box was acquired by Viacom in 2001. Because CBS owned-and-operated station KDKA-TV (channel 2) began broadcasting digitally on channel 25, WSSS-LP was temporarily forced off the air. The station returned to the air in July 2001 as a Class-A station on channel 29. In 2014, the station went silent because of financial trouble. The station's license was cancelled by the Federal Communications Commission effective July 14, 2021, for failing to file for a license to transition to digital operation. WWVW-LD, virtual channel 56 ( UHF digital channel 8), is a low-powered television station licensed to Wheeling, West Virginia, United States. The station is owned by Abacus Television, which owns a number of LPTV stations in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. WWVW is currently off the air. History WWVW-LP began operations on September 28, 1990, as W62BW. In 1999, it changed its callsign to W56DX. The station was an American Independent Network affiliate and also aired programming from shopping networks. The station was silent for a time between 2002 and 2005 as the station upgraded its facilities. The station returned to the air in the summer of 2005 with the call sign WWVW-LP and began airing Jewelry TV. On November 19, 2012, the station changed its call sign to the current WWVW-LD. WBYD-CD, virtual channel 39 ( UHF digital channel 19), is a low-powered, Class A Jewelry TV- affiliated television station licensed to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Owned by Fifth Street Enterprises, it broadcasts from the WQED's antenna tower in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Until 2015, the station was licensed to Johnstown, Pennsylvania. It is famous for televising a live auction for two years from 2001 to 2002. The station is not carried on any local cable TV system or DBS provider in the Pittsburgh area. WIIC-LD, virtual and UHF digital channel 31, is a low-powered Rev'n- affiliated television station licensed to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The station is owned by Abacus Television, and broadcasts from WQED's antenna tower in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. History WIIC was originally an affiliate of The Box. After The Box was purchased by Viacom in 2001, WIIC became an affiliate of MTV2. In 2001, it would also simulcast Live Auction Television, a program that aired on its sister station, WBYD-CA (channel 39). After leaving MTV2, WIIC-LP aired programming from NOYZ, a hybrid music/text messaging channel, until the station went silent in late 2007. NOYZ ceased operations a few months later. MTV2 (formerly M2) is an American pay television Cable television, channel owned by the Paramount Media Networks division of Paramount Global. The channel launched initially as an all-music video service, once the original MTV had started to shift its programming. Steubenville is a city in and the county seat of Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. Located along the Ohio River 33 miles west of Pittsburgh, it had a population of 18,161 at the 2020 census. In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. This distinguishes such a station from an affiliate, which is independently owned and carries network programming by contract.
