WSHU (1260 AM), is an NPR member radio station licensed to Westport, Connecticut. It is owned and operated by Sacred Heart University. By day, WSHU is powered at 1,000 watts using a directional antenna. However, at night, to avoid interference with other stations on 1260 AM, it reduces power to nine watts. Programming is also heard on 150-watt FM translator W276DY at 103.1 MHz in Westport. WSUF (89.9 FM) is a radio station licensed to Noyack, New York and serves the eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut areas. It is owned by Sacred Heart University. It broadcasts a news/talk radio and classical music format that includes programming from NPR, Public Radio International, and American Public Media. For most of the time, it acts as a full satellite of WSHU, though on Sunday mornings and afternoons it simulcasts WSHU-FM's classical programming. WJMJ (88.9 MHz) is a non-profit, non-commercial, FM radio station licensed to Hartford, Connecticut. It is owned by St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Connecticut, which in turn is owned by the Archdiocese of Hartford. The transmitter tower is atop Johnnycake Mountain in Burlington, Connecticut. The station has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 2,300 watts. For its programming to be heard in other parts of Connecticut, WJMJ has FM translators on 107.1 in New Haven and on 93.1 in Hamden. Noyack (also Noyac) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The CDP population was 4,325 at the 2020 census. ''Noyac'' is an Algonquin word meaning "a corner or point of land". It is believed that it refers to Jessup Neck, granted to John Jessup in 1679. Westport is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, along the Long Island Sound within Connecticut's Gold Coast. It is northeast of New York City. The town had a population of 27,141 according to the 2020 U.S. Census. History The earliest known inhabitants of the Westport area as identified through archaeological finds date back 7,500 years.
