WSHU (AM)
WSHU (1260 AM), is an NPR member radio station licensed to Westport, Connecticut. It is owned and operated by Sacred Heart University. By day, WSHU is powered at 1,000 watts using a directional antenna. However, at night, to avoid interference with other stations on 1260 AM, it reduces power to nine watts. Programming is also heard on 150-watt FM translator W276DY at 103.1 MHz in Westport. WSHU primarily features news, talk and informational programming from National Public Radio with local news updates throughout the day. Westport is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, along the Long Island Sound within Connecticut's Gold Coast. It is northeast of New York City. WYBC (1340 AM) is a radio station operating on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The station is owned by Yale Broadcasting Company, Inc.; however, it is programmed by Sacred Heart University under a time brokerage agreement. WYBC is a public radio station, airing a news/talk format. History The 1340 AM frequency first signed-on in December 1944 as WNHC, under the ownership of the Elm City Broadcasting Corporation. Greenport is a village in Suffolk County, on the North Fork of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 2,197 at the 2010 census. HD Radio
HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation.
