WRVK (1460 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a full service format centered on Classic Country. Licensed to Mount Vernon, Kentucky, United States, it serves the South Central Kentucky area. WRVK is a daytime-only station. History WRVK was founded in 1957 by John Lair and Tom Hargis in Renfro Valley, Kentucky. The station is currently owned by Saylor Broadcasting, Inc. Today, WRVK features a unique format of traditional country, bluegrass, gospel, and oldies music programming. The station also provides local news, sports, and weather coverage Mondays - Saturdays, a local tradio program entitled "Whatcha Got?" as well as local church programming on Sundays. ''Renfro Valley Gatherin' '' (also formerly known as ''Renfro Valley Sunday Morning Gathering '') is a United States radio program based in Renfro Valley, Kentucky. The Gatherin' is the third oldest continually broadcast radio program in America, and (since the 2007 cancellation of the ''WWVA Jamboree'') the second-longest continually-running such program featuring country music; only the ''Grand Ole Opry'' (1925) and '' Music & the Spoken Word'' (1929) have been continually broadcast longer. Renfro Valley is a neighborhood located just off Interstate 75 at the junction of U.S. Route 25 and Kentucky Route 2793 north of Mount Vernon, a city in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, United States. The community of Renfro Valley (which has its own United States Post Office, zip code 40473) includes the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center. Since being founded by local area native John Lair and others in 1939, Renfro Valley Entertainment Center has hosted the ''Renfro Valley Barn Dance'', a traditional country music show which gave entertainers such as Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Red Foley, and Homer and Jethro the spotlight early in their careers. Mount Vernon, Kentucky
Mount Vernon is a home rule-class city and the seat of Rockcastle County in southeastern Kentucky. The intersection of U.S. Routes 25 and 150 is located here. The population was 2,477 at the time of the 2010 U.S. census. Mount Vernon is part of the Richmond-Berea micropolitan area. History The area was first settled by European Americans in 1790 after the American Revolutionary War, around a feature called Spout Springs. Much of the area was originally swampland.
