WPLN-FM
WPLN-FM (90.3 FM), is a National Public Radio-affiliated station in Nashville, Tennessee. Since June 2011, the station has employed exclusively a news and talk format; until then, the station carried at least some classical music. The station maintains studios on Mainstream Drive north of downtown Nashville, studios that some consider among the finest radio production facilities in the U.S. Overview Nashville Public Radio offers five program streams: WPLN (AM); WPLN-FM; HD-2 and HD-3, which are multicasts from the main FM channel; and WNXP (see below). All five are also streamed on the radio station's website. WPLN-FM's signal, which is transmitted from a tower on Johnson Chapel Road in Williamson County (just outside Brentwood), travels in about a 65-mile radius, reaching most of Middle Tennessee and some counties in southern Kentucky. WNXP
WNXP (91.1 FM) is a public radio station in Nashville, Tennessee. The station is owned by Nashville Public Radio, the licensee of Nashville's main NPR member station, WPLN-FM. It airs an adult album alternative (AAA) radio format. WNXP holds periodic on-air fundraisers to support the station, which is non-commercial. WNXP has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 10,000 watts. The transmitter is located off Knob Road in Nashville, sharing a tower with WSMV-TV, Nashville's NBC Network affiliate. WYGI (1430 AM) is a radio station licensed to Madison, Tennessee. The station serves the Nashville, Tennessee, area along with sister station WHPY-FM. WYGI, which was WPLN at the time, was an effort by the directors of Nashville Public Radio to find a place to program NPR features at the time such as ''The Diane Rehm Show'' and similar fare that had a definite and loyal audience but a lesser one than public radio standbys such as NPR's ''All Things Considered'' and ''Morning Edition'' and American Public Media's now-defunct ''A Prairie Home Companion'' (later known as ''Live From Here''). WRVU
WRVU is a student-run college radio station associated with, but not operated by, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. It broadcasts via streaming radio, and from 1973 to 2014, it was also broadcast on licensed radio stations in Nashville. The station is operated as a division of Vanderbilt Student Communications (VSC), History Early stations A clandestine station at Vanderbilt University was set up by student Ken Berryhill around 1951 under the name "the Voice of the Commodore", but was shut down soon after, when the university administration discovered the antenna wire draped around Cole Hall. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation.
