WOYL
WOYL was an American radio station, licensed to the community of Oil City, Pennsylvania. WOYL operated at the assigned frequency of 1340 kHz and a full-time output power of a thousand watts. WOYL signed off December 27, 2009, due to major technical difficulties; though the station acquired a special temporary extension that allowed the station to remain silent until June 2010, it was ultimately decided to return the WOYL license to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Though licensed to Oil City, some programming, sales and administrative functions did not originate out of Oil City, but rather Meadville, Pennsylvania, the headquarters of Forever Broadcasting's other northwest Pennsylvania broadcast properties. WFRA is an American radio station, licensed to Franklin, Pennsylvania; the seat of government for Venango County, Pennsylvania. WFRA broadcasts at the assigned frequency of 1450 kHz at a full-time power of a thousand watts. WFRA is owned by Forever Broadcasting, LLC; which also owns its primary programming vehicle, the Allegheny News Talk Sports Network. History WFRA went on the air in 1958, three years after the debut of its affiliate station, WTIV in Titusville, about 15 miles north of Franklin just north of the Crawford-Venango County border. Though within close proximity of each other, owner and founder Robert H. Sauber was allowed to put another AM station on the air because the two stations were in separate counties, thus meeting more stringent FCC ownership limits at the time. WSAJ was one of the earliest AM educational radio stations, licensed November 29, 1922 – January 30, 2006 to Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. The station traced its founding to broadcasts made over "Technical and Training School" station 8YV, which began in March 1920. WSAJ broadcast from Rockwell Science Hall on the college campus. WMGW (1490 AM) is a commercial radio station in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the seat of government for Crawford County. WMGW is the flagship station of the "Allegheny News-Talk-Sports Network," also owned by its licensee, Seven Mountains Media. Though licensed to Titusville, programming, sales and administrative functions originate out of Meadville, Pennsylvania. Oil City is a city in Venango County, Pennsylvania known for its prominence in the initial exploration and development of the petroleum industry. Special Temporary Authority (STA) in U.S. broadcast law is a type of broadcast license which temporarily allows a broadcast station to operate outside of its normal technical or legal parameters. In the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) station database (CDBS), broadcast STA applications have a prefix of BSTA (general), BLSTA (legal), BESTA (engineering), or BLESTA (both). STAs can also be issued for other telecommunication services under FCC regulation. Often an STA is necessary due to an unforeseen event. A station operator must exhibit why the STA is necessary and serves the public good. A common reason to apply for STA is an equipment failure. In case a station cannot use its licensed antenna or transmission system, it can immediately continue operations using any available antenna or operating parts of existing system, as long as an STA is filed for within 24 hours. WLOQ (96.3 FM) is a radio station in Oil City, Pennsylvania, United States, broadcasting the K-Love network and owned by the Educational Media Foundation. From 1993 to 2022, the station was a locally owned station owned by WKQW (1120 AM), last broadcasting an adult contemporary format. History In 1993, WKQW founder Stephen Olszowka successfully applied for an FM license, giving birth to WKQW-FM. The new station broadcast at 96.3 FM with an effective radiated power of 6,000 watts and went on the air with an oldies format, separate from WKQW's adult contemporary format (which would later become talk). Stephen Olszowka died suddenly on February 14, 2004, at the age of 54. After his death, his family made arrangements to sell WKQW-AM-FM to another owner, Clarion County Broadcasting, the following year.
