WMUB (FM)
WMUB (88.5 FM) is a public radio station licensed to Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, United States. It produced local programming for 59 years until March 1, 2009, when it became a part of Cincinnati Public Radio. The station serves southwest Ohio and southeast Indiana. WMUB started as a student-operated station in the 1940s and turned FM in 1950. Cincinnati Public Radio, Inc. is the broadcast license holder for WGUC (90.9) and WVXU (91.7), two FM radio stations broadcasting to the Greater Cincinnati area with classical music, news, information, and entertainment programming. The organization also operates FM radio station WMUB (88.5 M Hz) in Oxford, Ohio. The company is an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization led by a local Board of Directors and a professional staff conducting day-to-day business. The company was originally founded in 1994 as Cincinnati Classical Public Radio, which took over day-to-day operations of WGUC, then owned by the University of Cincinnati. Williams Hall (Miami University)
Williams Hall is located on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. It is the home of Miami University's Department of Journalism and Department of Communications. History Early history Williams Hall was constructed in 1959 primarily for the use of the communication department at Miami University and for the use of WMUB studios, Miami’s campus radio broadcasting station. Prior to the completion of Williams Hall, all broadcasting equipment was housed on the second floor of Harrison Hall. After completion of Williams Hall, the classrooms were cramped due to the need to soundproof rooms for WMUB. Also, Williams Hall only had one bathroom in the entire building. HD Radio
HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation. This leaves the original analog signal intact, allowing enabled receivers to switch between digital and analog as required. In most FM implementations, from 96 to 128 kbps of capacity is available. High-fidelity audio requires only 48 kbps so there is ample capacity for additional channels, which HD Radio refers to as "multicasting". WVXU (91.7 FM) is a public radio station located in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is owned by Cincinnati Public Radio, which also operates station WGUC and WMUB.
