WLLV (1240 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an urban gospel format. Licensed to Louisville, Kentucky, United States, the station serves the Louisville, KY-IN market area. The station is currently owned by New Albany Broadcasting Co., Inc. The station signed on in 1941 as WINN (AM), a pop station and Mutual Radio Network affiliate. In 1965, the station turned to Country & Western music and remained so until late 1982, when it was sold to a group of African-American pastors from the Chicago, Illinois area. The format changed to southern gospel music, and the call letters changed from WINN to WLLV. Its studios are located west of downtown and the transmitter is on the city's westside near I-264. New Albany, Indiana
New Albany is a city in Floyd County, Indiana, United States, situated along the Ohio River, opposite Louisville, Kentucky. The population was 37,841 as of the 2020 census. The city is the county seat of Floyd County. It is bounded by I-265 to the north and the Ohio River to the south, and is considered part of the Louisville, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s.
