WKLA is an AM radio station owned by Todd Mohr, through licensee Synergy Media, Inc. It broadcasts from Ludington, Michigan. It airs Westwood One's Good Time Oldies format and can be heard in a very small area around Ludington and Scottville. In late 2013 and early 2014, WKLA added two FM translators to extend its reach, 92.7 W224CA in Ludington (formerly a rebroadcaster of sister station WWKR) and 107.9 W300CG in Manistee (which has since moved to a different frequency and is simulcasting WKLA's sister station WMLQ). 92.7 covers a larger coverage area than 1450 AM. WKLA is also the home of Manistee Chippewas football and basketball despite the 1450 signal not reaching Manistee itself. WLDN is an FM radio station owned by Synergy Media and is licensed to Ludington, Michigan. WLDN broadcasts from studios in Ludington, Michigan along with sister stations WKLA, WWMN, WKZC, WMLQ, and WWKR. It runs a news/talk/sports format and can be heard as far north as Copemish, Michigan, as far east as Reed City, Michigan, and as far south as Whitehall, Michigan. Under certain conditions, it can be heard in parts of northeastern Wisconsin and in Traverse City, Michigan. WWMN (106.3 FM) is a radio station owned by John Yob, through licensee Mitten News LLC. Licensed to Thompsonville, Michigan, the station serves the Traverse City market with a coverage area extending from the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula south to Manistee and Cadillac. History WWMN began operations in May 1971 as WKLA-FM and spent much of its programming day simulcasting its AM sister station throughout the 1970s. Around 1980, the station further separated programming from the AM's Middle of the Road format by moving into Adult Contemporary, which has been the station's format since, although the station still simulcast the AM during certain dayparts until 2000. WMLQ (97.7 FM, "News 97 & 98") is a radio station located in Manistee, Michigan broadcasting a news/talk format, simulcasting WLDN 98.7 FM Ludington. The station began broadcasting in 1970 under the WMTE-FM call sign (the current WMTE-FM, at 101.5, is unrelated, but was a sister station of WMLQ for a short time in 2012 and 2013). In the 1980s, the station was WRRK, playing Top 40 music. From 1995 to 2006, the station simulcast WVXU in Cincinnati, Ohio as WVXM, an affiliate of the "X-Star Radio Network," which featured a variety of programs, including news, talk, jazz, and adult standards. WWKR (94.1 FM, "K-Rock") is a radio station in Hart, Michigan, broadcasting a classic rock format. The station airs the satellite-fed "Rock Classics" format (a.k.a. "The Classic Rock Station") from Jones Radio Networks. History The station began broadcasting in 1995 as WEWM in Pentwater, Michigan, with a satellite-fed smooth jazz format from Jones. The current format and calls were adopted in 1998. When 105.3 FM WCXT moved from Hart to Coopersville to become a Grand Rapids market station (see WHTS), WWKR changed its city of license to Hart to retain local radio service to the community of Hart, with no change in power or antenna pattern. Scottville, Michigan
Scottville is a city in Mason County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,214 at the 2010 census. History The area was first mapped in 1874 as a stop along the Pere Marquette Railway. It was originally called Mason Center, as it was in the center of the county. It was later renamed Sweetland, after James Sweetland, who built a sawmill there in 1878. Hiram Scott platted the land in 1882, and won the right to rename the settlement as Scottville after winning a coin toss. Scottville was incorporated as a village in 1889 and as a city in 1907.
