WJZQ 92.9 Cadillac/Traverse City is a 100,000-watt radio station broadcasting a Top 40 (CHR) format as ''Z93''. It is owned by Ross Biederman's Midwestern Broadcasting, who also owns WTCM-AM/ FM and WCCW- AM/ FM, all in Traverse City, MI. WWTV-FM and WKJF-FM WJZQ was originally WWTV-FM, co-owned with WWTV, then at channel 13. It was signed on in 1961 by John Fetzer, a well-known TV station owner in the midwest and a longtime owner of the Detroit Tigers baseball team. The station's transmitter was on the fabled "Fetzer Mountain" in Osceola County, which was one of the highest points in Michigan. Many would claim that you could hear WKJF-FM on a good radio almost anywhere in Michigan. During some conditions, it can be heard as far south as Grand Rapids, Michigan. WTCM-FM 103.5 is a radio station in Traverse City, Michigan. The station carries a country music format and is owned by Midwestern Broadcasting. History In 1939, WTCM founder Les Biederman and several of his friends - engineer Bill Kiker and Drew McClay among others - decided to start a radio station in an undeveloped radio market. They chose Traverse City, Michigan as a city destined for growth which had no local radio station. They moved to the city and built the 250-watt transmitter that would be Traverse City's first radio station. WTCM initially broadcast from a small studio at the base of the tower. The WTCM control console was hand-built by Biederman and Kiker, and served the station until its replacement around 1980. John Fetzer
John Earl Fetzer (March 25, 1901 – February 20, 1991) was a radio and television executive who was best known as the owner of the Detroit Tigers from 1961 through 1983. Under his ownership, the 1968 Detroit Tigers season, 1968 Tigers won the 1968 World Series, World Series. Biography Born in 1901 in Decatur, Indiana, Fetzer moved with his mother to Lafayette, Indiana, after his father died when Fetzer was 2 years old. There, his brother-in-law, a telegraph operator for the Wabash Railroad, introduced young John to the early workings of wireless communication. Via telegraph reports, they would track the baseball games of the Detroit Tigers, which he would later own. WZTK (105.7 FM) is an American radio station stunting with a Christmas music format. The station is licensed to the city of Alpena, Michigan. The station is currently owned by Midwestern Broadcasting Company. History WZTK was issued its broadcast license by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on July 30, 2014. WZTK signed on the air at 105.7 FM on June 26, 2014. The station assumed the talk radio format and programming that formerly aired on WATZ, whose license was surrendered to the FCC on July 7, 2014. WKLT 97.5 Kalkaska (Traverse City), WBCM 93.5 Boyne City (Petoskey) and WRGZ 96.7 Rogers City (Alpena) are classic rock-leaning mainstream rock stations simulcasting as "KLT The Rock Station".
