WJTN (1240 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station licensed to Jamestown, New York. The station is owned by Media One Radio Group. On December 31, 1924, the station signed on, making the station the oldest in southwestern New York and third-longest lived in all of Western New York—behind only WGR and WDCZ. WKSN (1340 AM broadcasting, AM) – branded ''Kissin' Oldies 1340'' – is a commercial oldies radio station licensed to Jamestown, New York. Owned by Media One Radio Group, the station serves as a local affiliate for the Cleveland Guardians Radio Network. History AM 1340 signed on in 1948 as ''WJOC''. It used the call sign ''WXYJ'' in the mid-1960s before adopting the WKSN call sign and "Kissin'" slogan by no later than 1968. For most of its early history, WKSN played a Top 40 format using the "Good Guys" slogan. A television sister station, WNYB, WNYP (channel 26), signed on in 1966, when both stations were owned by Bud Paxson; channel 26 shut down after three years and its license is now being used by a religious station. Jim Roselle
James Roselle (April 15, 1926 – March 23, 2016) was an American radio personality. Roselle worked at WJTN in Jamestown, New York from 1953 until his death in 2016. Early life Roselle was born in Jamestown in 1926 and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944. He attended St. Lawrence University and studied communications. Career Roselle began his radio career at a station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1951, but returned to his hometown of Jamestown two years later. Beginning in 1974, Roselle did live broadcasts each summer from Chautauqua Institution. He was honored with a commemorative plaque at the Institution in 2015 for his 40-plus years of broadcasts. The station is currently owned by MediaOne Radio Group. History The station originally intended to sign on as WKSQ-FM, as FCC records dated September 5, 2000 indicate. On October 9, 2000, the station changed its call sign to the current WKZA, the call sign made popular by a now-defunct AM station in nearby Kane, Pennsylvania.
