The Women's Flat Track Derby Association's South Central Region was formed in 2008 when WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. For 2011, the region was expanded, taking in leagues from Nebraska and New Mexico. Blue Ridge Rollergirls
The Blue Ridge Rollergirls (BRRG) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Asheville, North Carolina. Founded in 2006, Blue Ridge held its first competitive season in 2007, joined the WFTDA Apprentice Program in 2010, and became a full member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in March 2012. Structure and history After first organizing in 2006, Blue Ridge held its first public games on June 30, 2007, at Carrier Park in Asheville, drawing over 300 fans. By 2012, Blue Ridge was drawing up to 2,000 fans to games at the Ag Center. Blue Ridge Rollergirls is composed of two teams, the All-Stars travel team, and the French Broads, the BRRG B team (named for the French Broad River that flows through Asheville). Duke City Roller Derby
Duke City Roller Derby (DCRD) is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2005, Duke City is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Founded in 2005, Duke City is the oldest roller derby organization in Albuquerque. Early on, the league comprised three teams based in Albuquerque, one in Santa Fe and one in Rio Rancho. By 2009, the league had moved its home events to the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, with the hopes of drawing 1,000 fans per game. Originally in the WFTDA's West Region, Duke City was moved to the South Central Region in 2011. Duke City has been credited with developing "slow derby" strategies that are still employed by top teams in the WFTDA. Rocket City Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league located in Huntsville, Alabama. Founded in December 2004 as Dixie Derby Girls, the league is a charter member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization The Dixie Derby Girls were formed in 2004. In 2006, with two home teams, the Thrill Killers and the Red Hot Riots, the league started holding games at Roller Time. An All-Star team was formed to play teams from other leagues. The Des Moines Derby Dames (D3) was a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Des Moines, Iowa. The league was founded in 2009 and was the second roller derby league in the Des Moines area. The Dallas Derby Devils (DDD) is a flat track roller derby league in Dallas, Texas and surrounding area of Ft. Worth, Texas. Founded in November 2004, the Dallas Derby Devils is the original North Texas roller derby league with a current roster of over one hundred active skaters, making DDD one of the largest flat track derby leagues in the southern United States. The Classic City Rollergirls (CCRG) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Athens, Georgia.
