WFIS (1600 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format to the Fountain Inn/ Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States, area. The station was owned by Timeless Media, Inc. On January 2, 2014, the station licensee was surrendered to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for cancellation. The licensee indicated that the surrender was related to their pending application to increase the broadcast power of co-owned station WTZQ in Henderson, North Carolina. On January 3, 2014, the FCC cancelled the station license. Fountain Inn, South Carolina
Fountain Inn is a city in Greenville and Laurens counties in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 7,799 at the 2010 census, up from 6,017 in 2000. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The Cannon Building, Fairview Presbyterian Church, Fountain Inn High School, Fountain Inn Principal's House and Teacherage, McDowell House, Robert Quillen Office and Library, Tullyton, and F. W. Welborn House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography The southern part of the city is in Laurens County, while the bulk of the city is in Greenville County. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. Henderson is a city and the county seat of Vance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 15,060 at the 2020 census. History The city was named in honor of former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Leonard Henderson, who lived nearby and was a friend of early settler Lewis Reavis. WTZQ
WTZQ (1600 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies/ adult standards format. Licensed to Hendersonville, North Carolina, United States, the station is currently owned by Paige Posey and Mark Warwick, through licensee Flat Rock Multimedia, LLC, and features local programming and music 24 hours a day. History WHVL signed on in 1963. From 1977 to 1987 the station broadcast a Top 40 format. In 1987, WHVL changed call letters to WTZQ and began playing " Solid Gold". In summer 1988, the format changed to "Simply Beautiful". In 1990, Mystle and Jim Butler, who had owned the station since 1986, sold WTZQ to United Broadcasting Enterprises, Inc. Glenn W.
