WCJK (96.3 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Murfreesboro, Tennessee and serving the Nashville metropolitan area. WNFN (106.7 FM, "Hot 106-7") is a Top 40 (CHR) formatted radio station in the Nashville, Tennessee market, broadcasting a Top 40 format. Its transmitter site is in Whites Creek, Tennessee and its studios are in Berry Hill, Tennessee. Previously licensed to the affluent Nashville suburb of Belle Meade, but subsequently obtaining a permit for an increased signal, with a new license based the Nashville suburb of Millersville (just across the line from Davidson County), WNFN was formerly operated under the callsign of WNPL. The station's original construction permit listed Mt. Juliet, Tennessee as the city of license, but this was changed amid concerns of interference with radio communications at Nashville International Airport. Midwest Communications is a Wausau, Wisconsin-based radio broadcasting company. It owns 82 radio stations located primarily within the Midwest United States, in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin. The company is a family-owned business and is headed by Duke Wright. History 1950s-1960s Midwest Communications began in Wausau, Wisconsin, with WRIG, Inc. and the acquisition by the Duey E. Wright family of a 1400 kHz, 250 watt AM facility from the Wisconsin Valley Television Corporation. The call letters WRIG (for Wright) were assigned and on August 1, 1958, top forty-formatted WRIG signed on the air. WJXA (92.9 FM) is an adult contemporary radio station. Licensed to Nashville, Tennessee, United States, the station serves the Nashville, Bowling Green, Clarksville-Hopkinsville areas. Its studios are located in south central Nashville near the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and the transmitter site is located in the far western portion of Nashville. Monte Hale (sportscaster)
Monte Hale (November 17, 1939 - January 2, 1982) was a radio personality and owner of the WMTS-AM and FM radio stations located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Hale also served as part-owner of WGNS. From 1960 to 1981, Hale performed radio play-by-play duties for Middle Tennessee State University's football and basketball teams, and became known as "the Voice of the Blue Raiders." In 1978, he was the play-by-play announcer for the Double-A Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team during their inaugural season in Nashville. Hale also served as play-by-play announcer for Murfreesboro Central High School. In 1981, he was inducted into MTSU's Kennon Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions as broadcaster for the university's athletic programs. Doctors discovered a malignant tumor on Hale's tongue in 1966, and removed half of it. Despite that, Hale continued to broadcast as he dealt with cancer for the remainder of his life. Interstate 24 (I-24) is an Interstate Highway in the Midwestern and Southeastern United States. It runs diagonally from I-57, south of Marion, Illinois, to Chattanooga, Tennessee, at I-75. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. In broadcasting, sister stations or sister channels are radio or television stations operated by the same company, either by direct ownership or through a management agreement. Radio sister stations will often have different formats, and sometimes one station is on the AM band while another is on the FM band. Conversely, several types of sister-station relationships exist in television; stations in the same city will usually be affiliated with different television networks (often one with a major network and the other with a secondary network), and may occasionally shift television programs between each other when local events require one station to interrupt its network feed.
