WBXK-CA, VHF analog channel 8, was a low-powered, Class A America One- affiliated licensed to Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The station was owned by the Community Television Network. History It began broadcasting on March 16, 1990 as W08CU, and was an over-the-air music-video outlet. In the 1990s, WBXK was affiliated with the Video Jukebox Network, which was renamed The Box in 1991. The station's "programming" was basically music videos requested by non-cable viewers in the greater Jackson area. On September 1, 1995, the station's call letters changed from W08CU to WBXK-CA. In 2001, WBXK remained a music video station even though it inevitably became an MTV2 affiliate (at the time known as ''M2'', which absorbed ''The Box'' that year). MTV2 (formerly M2) is an American pay television Cable television, channel owned by the Paramount Media Networks division of Paramount Global. The channel launched initially as an all-music video service, once the original MTV had started to shift its programming. As with its parent network, MTV2's focus on music programming would gradually be downplayed during the 2000s. Urban America Television (UATV) was an over-the-air television broadcast network in the United States targeted towards Black Americans. According to the company's website, the network had 70 affiliate stations. UATV claimed to have had a reach of 22 million households in the United States. It was a successor to the earlier American Independent Television network and began broadcasting December 3, 2001. Created and developed by Fred Hutton (among others) the early programming featured independent produced programs, along with 1930s and 1940s public domain race films.
