WAM Song Of The Year
WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. WAM first received project funding from the state government in 1989, and in the early 90s the word "rock" was dropped from the title to give the organisation scope to take on a broader constituency. In 1989 the inaugural WA Song Contest commenced, in 2002 it was rebranded as the WAM Song of the Year. The WAM Song of the Year is open to all residents of Western Australia. The song must be the original work of the songwriter(s). Songwriters with a publishing deal can only enter the Professional category. RTRFM
RTRFM (call sign: 6RTR) is a Nonprofit organization, not-for-profit, community radio station based in Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. It is self-funded, largely through listener subscription and fund-raising events. However, it does carry some "advertising material" (called sponsorship with all community broadcasters in Australia) at a maximum of 5 mins per hour. It broadcasts 24 hours a day, on 92.1 in the frequency modulation, FM band. The name RTRFM is a contraction of "aRTy Radio". Some 309,000 people over the age of 15 listen to RTRFM in any given month; that’s around 17% of those over 15 in Perth. Regular RTRFM listeners tune in for an average of around fifteen hours a week. Institut Polaire
Institut Polaire were an indie band originating from Perth, Western Australia. History Institut Polaire formed as a three piece in 2004 by an American ex-pat (Erik Hecht), an English born scientist (David Thirkettle-Watts) and a country boy moved to the big city (Ash Blakeney; who left the band in 2005, handing over his role to cousin Ben). Institut Polaire has grown from three piece roots into a full-blown collective who currently number between seven and nine members toting everything from vintage Wurlitzer pianos to violins, banjos, trumpets, MacBooks, and glockenspiels. Rachel Claudio
Rachel Claudio is a singer/songwriter, DJ, and live performing musical artist from Perth, Australia. Early life Claudio was born and raised in Perth with an Italian heritage. After establishing herself as a DJ in Perth she moved to Paris, aged around 23. She performs her music by singing, sampling and mixing live while manipulating an array of musical production technology. Abbe Joanna May (born 19 July 1983) is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and human rights campaigner. From 2002 she pursued her music career in Perth-based groups, The Fuzz, Abbe May and the Rockin' Pneumonia, and The Devil & Abbe May. Perth Festival, named Perth International Arts Festival (PIAF) between 2000 and 2017, and sometimes referred to as the Festival of Perth, is Australia's longest-running cultural festival, held annually in Western Australia.
