WAGs
WAGs (or Wags) is an acronym used to refer to wives and girlfriends of high-profile sportsmen. The term may also be used in the singular form, WAG, to refer to a specific female partner or life partner who is in a relationship with an athlete. The term was first used by the British tabloid press to refer to the wives and girlfriends of high-profile footballers, originally the England national football team. The WAGs acronym came about following an increasing focus on the coverage of athletes' partners in the late-20th century, and it came into common use during the 2006 FIFA World Cup to refer to Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole, although the term had been used occasionally before that. After achieving popularity, the acronym became a focus of reality television shows such as ''WAGs Boutique'', ''WAG Nation'', and ''WAGS''. WAGs Boutique
''WAGs Boutique'' is a reality television show on ITV2 in which two teams of WAGs (footballers' wives and girlfriends) ran two rival fashion boutiques over a three-month period. Format Ten women are split into two teams, both of which run neighbouring boutiques. The contestants have to think of a boutique name, decorate the boutiques themselves and choose every single item of stock. They run the boutiques themselves, with only the occasional word of advice from their mentors. Each week, a manager for each boutique is chosen and a challenge is set. The manager then has to select two contestants to leave the shop and complete the challenge. During the 3 months, the contestants compete for their team's chosen charity; all profit the boutiques made are sent to the charity. The winning team is the group which obtains the most profit. ''WAGS'', also known as ''WAGS LA'', is a 2015-2017 American reality documentary television series that ran for three seasons on the E! television network. ''WAG Nation'' is an Australian reality series that was aired on Arena, a subscription television channel. The series follows the lives of five women described as "WAGs", wives and girlfriends of Australian sportsmen. The first season of ''WAG Nation'' premiered on 18 April 2012 and consists of 10 episodes.
