Wölferlinger Weiher
The Wölferlinger Weiher is a pond in the municipality of Wölferlingen between the village of Wölferlingen itself and Langenhahn in the German county of Westerwaldkreis. In 1979, the Wölferlinger Weiher was designated an official Naturschutzgebiet (Deutschland), nature reserve. It is on the Seven Weiher Way (''7-Weiher-Weg'') in the Westerwald region. Laid out along with six other ponds by Count Frederick III of Wied in the 17th century, the Wölferlinger Weiher is part of the protected landscape known as the Westerwald Lake District. The Wölferlinger Weiher itself has an area of 1.02 hectares and is thus much smaller than the other waterbodies of the Westerwald Lake District. It is home to rare bird and plant species such as Polemonium caeruleum, Jacob's Ladder and lesser butterfly-orchid. The lake has marshes and shallow water zones along its perimeter. Westerwald Lake District
The Westerwald Lakes (german: Westerwälder Seen) lie within the eponymous Westerwald Lake District (''Westerwälder Seenplatte'') in the Westerwald forest within the town quarters of Hachenburg, Westerburg, Montabaur and Dierdorf in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Wölferlingen is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a community belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'' – in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Langenhahn is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a community belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'' – in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Westerwaldkreis
The Westerwaldkreis ("District of Westerwald") is a district (''Kreis'') in the north-east of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (from north clockwise) Altenkirchen, Lahn-Dill, Limburg-Weilburg, Rhein-Lahn, the district-free city Koblenz, Mayen-Koblenz and Neuwied. History When the area became part of Prussia in 1866 two districts covering the area were created. Westerwald
The Westerwald (; literally 'Western forest') is a low mountain range on the right bank of the river Rhine in the German federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a part of the Rhenish Massif ( or Rhenish Slate Mountains). Its highest elevation, at 657 m above sea level, is the Fuchskaute in the High Westerwald. Tourist attractions include the (394 metres), site of some Celtic ruins from La Tène times (5th to 1st century BC), found in the community of the same name, and Limburg an der Lahn, a town with a mediaeval centre. The geologically old, heavily eroded range of the Westerwald is in its northern parts overlaid by a volcanic upland made of Neogene basalt layers. ''Polemonium caeruleum'', known as Jacob's-ladder or Greek valerian, is a hardy perennial flowering plant. The plant produces cup-shaped, blue or white flowers. It is native to temperate regions of Europe. Growth The plant usually reaches tall and broad, but some occasionally grow taller than . It can grow in North American hardiness zone 2. Habitat The plant is native to damp grasslands, woodlands, meadows and rocky areas in temperate areas of Europe and Asia.
