Wölfe Freiburg
EHC Freiburg, is a professional ice hockey team based in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. They play in the DEL 2, the second-highest level of ice hockey in Germany. History The club was created as EHC Freiburg in 1984. In 2003, they became champion of the 2nd Bundesliga and earned the right to play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 2003–04 season. The organization was spun off to ''Die wölfe Eishockeyveranstaltungs GmbH'' and was renamed Wölfe Freiburg, while the other teams of the club remained at EHC Freiburg e.V. Wölfe Freiburg finished in last place in its only DEL season and was relegated back to the 2nd Bundesliga. Wölfe Freiburg then bounced between the 2nd Bundesliga and the Oberliga for several seasons. In 2006, ''Die wölfe Eishockeyveranstaltungs GmbH'' declared bankruptcy and ''Wölfe Freiburg GmbH'' was established the following year. DEL2
DEL2 (also known as DEL II) is the second tier ice hockey league in Germany, below the '' Deutsche Eishockey Liga'' (DEL) and ahead of the '' Oberliga''. Founded in 2013 to replace the defunct '' 2nd Bundesliga'', DEL2 is administered by ESBG, under licence from DEB. History The DEL2 league was founded on 2 May 2013 by Eishockeyliga Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. The foundation of the league was controversial as it was preceded by a long standing dispute between the operator of the second division, Eishockeyspielbetriebsgesellschaft mbH (ESBG), and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). In 2011, ESBG refused to sign a cooperation agreement between DEB and DEL citing unacceptable conditions. As a result, DEB withdrew their support of ESBG and promotion and relegation between the DEL and 2nd division was removed. Peter Russell (ice Hockey)
Peter Russell (born 20 June 1974) is a British ice hockey coach and former goaltender. He is currently the head coach of both the Ravensburg Towerstars in the German DEL2 and the Great Britain men's national ice hockey team. He is the most successful coach in GB history at both senior and junior level, with 11 medals including six gold medals. Professional career Playing career Russell made his debut with the Ayr Raiders during 1990 in the British Hockey League. In 1992, Pete moved to British Division 1, the country's then-second-tier league, playing for the Medway Bears, Dumfries Vikings, Blackburn Hawks, Slough Jets and the Paisley Pirates.
