Wynnum Wading Pool
Wynnum Wading Pool is a heritage-listed tidal pool on the foreshore of Moreton Bay at The Esplanade, Wynnum, Queensland, Wynnum, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The shallow oval-shaped pool was built in 1932 by relief workers during the Great Depression and opened to the public in 1933. It is also known as Manly Wading Pool and Wynnum Wading Pool Reserve. Brisbane's recorded history dates from 1799, when Matthew Flinders explored Moreton Bay on an expedition from Port Jackson, although the region had long been occupied by the Yugara and Turrbal aboriginal tribes. Walter Henry Barnes (7 September 1858 – 19 February 1933) was a longtime member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early years Barnes was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, a son of Hiram Barnes, who took his family to Queensland when he was six years old. He gained employment in the saddler business, then worked as a driver for Cobb and Co. coaches. He next worked for the Post Office, then in 1884 joined his brother's firm of Barnes and Co. Ltd., produce and general merchants. He held the position of manager of the Roma Street business for very many years, and ultimately became managing director of the company.
