Wynne High School
Wynne Senior High School, known as Wynne High School, is a public secondary school for students in grades nine through twelve located in Wynne, Arkansas, United States. It is one of two public high schools in Cross County and the sole high school administered by the Wynne School District. It was destroyed by a tornado on March 31, 2023. In addition to Wynne it also serves Parkin, since the former Parkin School District merged into the Wynne district on September 7, 2005. Academics Wynne High School is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and has been accredited by AdvancED since 1927. The assumed course of study follows the Common Core curriculum developed by the ADE. Students complete regular (core and career focus) courses and exams and may select Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams that provide an opportunity for college credit. Wynne, Arkansas
Wynne is the county seat and largest city of Cross County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 8,367 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 Census. Nestled between the Arkansas Delta and Crowley's Ridge, Wynne is the closest city to the second-largest state park in Arkansas, Village Creek State Park (Arkansas), Village Creek State Park. Early history Wynne was named for Captain Jesse Watkins Wynne, a Texas, Texan who achieved the rank of captain in the American Civil War, Civil War at the age of just 21. He was famed for leading a group of his captors up to the Confederate States Army, Confederate lines, where he then marched them to headquarters as his own prisoners. Yellowjacket or yellowjacket is the common name in North America for predatory social wasps of the genus, genera ''Vespula'' and ''Dolichovespula''. Members of these genera are known simply as "wasps" in other English-speaking countries. Tornado Outbreak Of March 31 – April 1, 2023
A widespread, deadly, and historic tornado outbreak affected large portions of the Midwestern, Southern and Eastern United States on the last day of March and the first of April, the result of an extratropical cyclone that also produced blizzard conditions in the Upper Midwest. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issued a rare high risk for severe weather in two areas of the Mississippi Valley on March 31, the first high risk issuance since March 25, 2021. Hugh Taylor (American Football)
Hugh Wilson "Bones" Taylor (July 6, 1923 – November 1, 1992) was an American football player and coach. He played as an end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins. Taylor attended Tulane University at the start of World War II where he was a Navy V-12 student. At Tulane he was an All-Southeastern Conference and All-American basketball player in 1943. After being discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946, he played college football at Oklahoma City College before entering the NFL in 1947. In his first NFL game, he gained 212 yards receiving, setting league records for an NFL debut and first game of the season. DeAngelo Williams
DeAngelo Chondon Williams (born April 25, 1983) is a former American football running back and professional wrestler. He played college football at Memphis, and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
