Aled Wyn Davies
Aled Wyn Davies (born 3 August 1974) is a classical tenor from Llanbrynmair, in Powys, Mid Wales. He is a member of the Three Welsh Tenors with Rhys Meirion and Aled Hall. Early life Davies's family were evicted from the farm run by Davies's grandparents, Dai and Mary, in 1964, when the valley was flooded to create the Clywedog Reservoir. In periods of major drought, the foundations of the building are sometimes visible, so that Davies and his children have been able to visit it. The family relocated to another farm, previously run by the family of harpist Elinor Bennett. Davies will be one of the performers at Bennett's farewell concert in 2023. Career Davies is a tenor soloist who has performed in venues all over the world. He was awarded the prestigious "David Ellis Memorial Prize" - The Blue Riband awarded to the best classical soloist at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Swansea in 2006 following a hat-trick of wins in the Tenor solo over 25 in 2004, 2005 and 2006. ... Owen Wyn Owen (1925 – 13 March 2012) was a Welsh automobile restorer and mechanic. He lived in Capel Curig, Snowdonia. His working life was spent as a lecturer in engineering at Caernarfonshire Technical College in Bangor, but he is known for his outside achievements. He died in March 2012. Restoration of ''Babs'' His most famous restoration project, which received worldwide attention, was to excavate and restore ''Babs'', after 40 years buried on a tidal beach. "Babs" was the car that in 1927, driven by J. G. Parry-Thomas, whilst attempting the land speed record at the time (180 mph or 290 km/h), crashed and killed the driver. The car was buried where the accident occurred on Pendine Sands. In 1967 Wyn Owen decided to excavate and restore ''Babs''. Ieuan Wyn Pritchard Roberts, Baron Roberts of Conwy, PC (10 July 1930 – 13 December 2013) was a Welsh Conservative politician. His father was a Minister in a chapel in Llansadwrn, Anglesey, and they lived in the schoolhouse. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Conwy (formerly ''Conway'') from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. Wyn Roberts served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Wales Peter Thomas from 1970 to 1974, and was Opposition spokesman on Wales between 1974 and 1979. On the 1979 Conservative election victory, he was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Welsh Office. After the 1987 election, he was promoted to Minister of State at the Welsh Office, a post he held until 1994. He was knighted for political service in 1990. Wyn Morris (14 February 192923 February 2010) was a Welsh conductor. Biography Morris was born in Trellech, Monmouthshire, Wales, the son of composer Haydn Morris. His musical education included spells at the Royal Academy of Music and the Salzburg Mozarteum where he was a pupil of Igor Markevitch. He was especially acknowledged for his interpretations of Gustav Mahler's works, which he recorded almost complete during the 1960s and 1970s. He was the first to record Deryck Cooke's second performing version of Mahler's Symphony No. 10 in 1972, only the third time a recording of the work had been made. He also conducted the first recording of Barry Cooper's realisation of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 10 in 1988. Wyn Davies (conductor)
Wyn Davies (born 8 May 1952 in Gowerton, Wales) is a Welsh conductor. After graduating from Christ Church, Oxford, Davies joined the Welsh National Opera as a Staff Conductor in 1974. From 1987, Davies spent two years as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, New York and undertook two winter seasons for the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts in Canada which included the 1989 award-winning production of Weill's Threepenny Opera in Toronto. In 2005, Davies was appointed director of music to New Zealand Opera. In Britain he regularly conducts at the Buxton Festival, with the Hallé Orchestra and for Opera North. In 2014, he was Musical Director for the world premiere production of John Metcalf's '' Under Milk Wood: An Opera'', an adaptation of Dylan Thomas' play for voices. Ronald Wyn Davies (born 20 March 1942) is a Welsh former professional footballer who made over 550 Football League appearances in the 1960s and 1970s, and who was also capped by Wales. Domestic career Although he began his career with Wrexham, followed by a successful few seasons for Bolton Wanderers, Davies (nicknamed ''Wyn the Leap'') is perhaps best known for playing for Newcastle United between 1966 and 1971. He was notably part of their Inter-Cities Fairs Cup-winning team of 1969. He is best known for his 1987 poem "Fun", which was adapted by Sheryl Crow and Bill Bottrell into the lyrics of Crow's 1994 breakthrough single " All I Wanna Do". Early life Wyn Cooper was born 2 January 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, to Maree Edith Cooper, a teacher's aide, and William Wendell Cooper, a tool-and-die machinist.
