The Wylie Independent School District is a public school district based in the far southern portion (often called Wylie) of Abilene, Texas, United States. In order to avoid confusion with the Wylie Independent School District in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex suburb of Wylie, the district is commonly referred to as Abilene Wylie. In 2009, the school district was rated " recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. Geography Wylie ISD serves southern Abilene, the communities of Caps, Potosi, and View, as well as unincorporated areas in east central Taylor County. The district is bordered by Abilene ISD (north), Eula ISD (east, northeast), Clyde Consolidated ISD (southeast), Jim Ned Consolidated ISD (south), and Merkel ISD (west, northwest). Wylie is a community in Taylor County, Texas, Taylor County, Texas, United States. The once predominantly rural area has developed into a thriving suburbanization, suburban bedroom community as the city of Abilene, Texas, Abilene expanded in the latter half of the 20th century. Taylor County, Texas
Taylor County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 143,208. Its county seat is Abilene. The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1878. It is named for Edward Taylor, George Taylor, and James Taylor, three brothers who died at the Battle of the Alamo. Taylor County is included in the Abilene, TX metropolitan statistical area, and is considered part of West Texas. History Among first inhabitants of the area were the Penteka. In 1849, Capt. Randolph Marcy, a U. S. Army engineer, passed through, scouting out West Texas-to-California routes. The Texas legislature established Taylor County in 1858 from Bexar and Travis Counties. Buffalo Gap, Texas
Buffalo Gap is an incorporated town in Taylor County, Texas, Taylor County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Abilene, Texas Abilene, Texas metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. ''Abilene Reporter-News'' is a daily newspaper based in Abilene, Texas, United States. The newspaper started publishing as the weekly ''Abilene Reporter'', helmed by Charles Edwin Gilbert on June 17, 1881, just three months after Abilene was founded. It is hence the oldest continuous business in the city. It became a daily newspaper in 1885. History Two months after starting the paper, a fire destroyed several buildings in Abilene, including Gilbert's office. He rode the train 21 miles east to Baird and used a borrowed printing press to produce an extra edition on the fire. Two other Abilene papers began publication in the 1880s. Jim Ned Consolidated Independent School District
Jim Ned Consolidated Independent School District is a school district based in Tuscola, Texas (USA). The district serves approximately 1,000 students in southeastern Taylor County, including the towns of Tuscola, Buffalo Gap and Lawn. A small portion of northeastern Runnels County lies within the district. The district is named after the Jim Ned Creek, which runs through all three towns.
