WYLE, (95.1 MHz), branded as Willie 95.1, is a classic country formatted FM radio station in Grove City, Pennsylvania. It is owned by Seven Mountains Media. The station originates its programming from facilities it shares with WKST and WUZZ in New Castle, Pennsylvania. WYLE is a station in the Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network. History Beginnings as WEDA-FM WYLE first signed on the air on September 10, 1962, as WEDA-FM, under the ownership of WEDA Inc. James V. Perry served as president and general manager. Studios were located at 125 S. Broad Street in Grove City. The station first broadcast at this frequency with a power output of 3,000 watts. For much of its early history, the station broadcast a format of easy-listening and adult contemporary music until the early 1980s, when it adopted an urban contemporary format, but then reverted to adult contemporary music by 1986 when the station went through its first ownership change in December of that year. WYLE (channel 26) was a television station in Florence, Alabama, United States, owned by ETC Communications, Inc. The station's transmitter was located on Underwood Mountain Road in unincorporated southern Colbert County. WYLE was founded January 11, 1982, and went silent on February 8, 2007, due to financial difficulties. ETC's license to operate the station was canceled by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on March 12, 2009, due to failure to transmit for a period of 12 consecutive months. History The FCC granted a construction permit to Alabama Management Company on January 11, 1982, to build a full-service television station to serve Florence, Alabama on UHF channel 26. Originally given the call sign WTUK, it changed to WTRT in December 1985. On April 19, 1986, the station began broadcasting and was licensed November 24, 1986. Florence Wyle
Florence Wyle (November 14, 1881 – January 14, 1968) was an American-Canadian sculptor, designer and poet; a pioneer of the Canadian art scene. She practiced chiefly in Toronto, living and working with her partner Frances Loring, with whom she shared a studio and home for almost sixty years. In 1928, she co-founded and was a former president of the Sculptors' Society of Canada with Loring, Alfred Laliberté, Elizabeth Wyn Wood, Emanuel Hahn and Henri Hébert, and was the first woman sculptor to become a full member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Throughout her career, alongside Loring, she was a persistent and convincing advocate for policy, tax benefits and living wages for artist's work. George Wyle
George Wyle (born Bernard Weissman; March 22, 1916 – May 2, 2003) was an American orchestra leader and composer best known for having written the theme song to 1960s television sitcom ''Gilligan's Island''. He is the grandfather of musician Adam Levy. Early years Wyle was born to a Jewish family. In the late 1940s and early 1950s his orchestra served as backup for a number of Columbia Records singers, including Doris Day. Some of the recordings (including "I Said My Pajamas (and Put on My Pray'rs)" in 1949 and "I Didn't Slip, I Wasn't Pushed, I Fell" in 1950) were of his own compositions. Career Wyle wrote with Sherwood Schwartz ''The Ballad of Gilligan's Island'', the theme song for ''Gilligan's Island''.
