Wyden Castle
Wyden castle (german: Schloss Wyden) is a castle in the municipality of Ossingen of the Canton of Zurich in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of regional significance. History The castle complex served as a control for the Thur river valley. It has been rebuilt several times. The oldest part, the fortified tower dates from the 13th century. In his later years, the painter Felix Meyer (1653-1713) lived here. In 1903, the castle became the home of Max Huber. Today, his descendants occupy the castle. It is a private residence. Films The Internet Movie Database lists Schloss Wyden as a filming location for Erwin C. Dietrich's 1982 film, ''Julchen und Jettchen, die verliebten Apothekerstöchter''. The Anti-Socialist Laws or Socialist Laws (german: Sozialistengesetze; officially , approximately "Law against the public danger of Social Democratic endeavours") were a series of acts of the parliament of the German Empire, the first of which was passed on 19 October 1878 by the Reichstag lasting until 31 March 1881 and extended four times (May 1880, May 1884, April 1886 and February 1888). The legislation gained widespread support after two failed attempts to assassinate Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany by the radicals Max Hödel and Karl Nobiling. The laws were designed by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck with the goal of reversing the growing strength of the Social Democratic Party (SPD, named SAP at the time) which was blamed for inspiring the assassins. The Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (german: Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands, SAPD) was a centrist Marxist political party in Germany. It was formed as a left-wing party with around 20,000 members which split off from the SPD in the autumn of 1931. In 1931, the remnants of Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) merged into the party and in 1932 some Communist Party dissenters also joined the group as well as a part from the Communist Party Opposition. Nevertheless, its membership remained small. From 1933, the group's members worked illegally against Nazism. In his home town of Lübeck, the young Herbert Karl Frahm, later known as Willy Brandt, joined the SAPD against the advice of his mentor Julius Leber. Felix Meyer (Maler)
Felix Meyer (1 February 1653 – 11 June 1713) was a Swiss painter and engraver. Biography Meyer was born in Winterthur. He primarily painted landscapes. Meyer moved to Nuremberg in 1678 where he studied painting and the arts. During his time there he met Georg Philipp Rugendas. Meyer moved back to Winterthur in 1678 to live and work. He painted a number of landscape works based on the mountains and glaciers there. Starting in 1688, Meyer was involved in local politics and the community, first as First Sergeant in Winterthur, then in 1697 as part of the Grand Council of Winterthur. From 1699 to 1703 he lived for a time in Bern.
