Wulagi, Northern Territory
Wulagi is a Northern suburb of Darwin, Northern Territory, in the Northern Territory of Australia. History Wulagi is one of Darwin's northern suburbs east of Lee Point Road and was built after Cyclone Tracy struck Darwin, Northern Territory in 1974. The name originates from an Aboriginal tribe on the Blyth and Cadell Rivers in Central Arnhem Land. Development of the area was primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. Like the neighbouring suburb of Anula, Wulagi is largely built on a plateau with a downhill slope on its east side. The suburb was designed as a low-density, low-traffic suburb with pedestrian access facilitated by a number of laneways and a 'green-belt' that runs from Wulagi Primary School and the central shopping area westwards. Wulagi Primary School is an open-plan public school centred on a library space. A co-located Early Learning Centre caters for children from 6 weeks to 5 years. The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. It includes the central business district of the capital, Darwin City, and represents two-thirds of its metropolitan population. Electoral Division Of Sanderson
Sanderson is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 1974, and derives its name from the name initially given to the area in 1879, before its division into suburbs. Sanderson is an urban electorate, covering 21 km² and taking in the Darwin suburbs of Anula, Marrara, Wulagi and part of Malak. There were 5,449 people enrolled in the electorate as of August 2020. Sanderson is a bellwether seat that has only tended to change hands at times of major political change in the Territory. It was initially won by the Country Liberal Party's Liz Andrew in 1974, when the CLP won all but two seats in the Assembly (both of which went to independents). Leanyer, Northern Territory
Leanyer is a northern suburb of Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia. History The name Leanyer was in general use for the area at the time of development and first appeared on 1869 survey plans. Leanyer is thought to be derived from an Aboriginal word. During World War II Leanyer was established as a military area, there was an Army post and a military equipment storage facility, gun turrets were also set up along the coast of Lee Point. It was disbanded soon after the end of World War II and residential development of Leanyer started during the 1970s.
