Wrexham Rugby Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Wrecsam) is a Welsh rugby union team based in Wrexham, Wales. Wrexham RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union. Wrexham was one of the nine founder clubs of the North Wales Rugby Union, which formed at Wrexham in 1931. History Wrexham RFC was founded in 1925. In 1931, at a meeting held by Wrexham, the North Wales Rugby Union was founded in January 1931 with nine clubs and affiliation to the Welsh Rugby Union coming in June of the same year. Originally Wrexham had no home ground and played as a nomadic club. This continued until 1946 when they obtained their own ground at Dean Road. In 1976 they moved to their current home ground on Bryn Estyn Lane in 1976 with floodlights being installed a year later. Wrexham ( ; cy, Wrecsam; ) is a city and the administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough in Wales. It is located between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley, near the border with Cheshire in England. Historically in the county of Denbighshire, and later the county of Clwyd in 1974, it has been the principal settlement of Wrexham County Borough since 1996. The Welsh Rugby Union Division Two North (also called the SWALEC Division Two North for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales. The league was known as Division Five North before the 2008-09 season. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 12 clubs in the WRU Division Two North. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 18 games for each club, with a total of 90 games in each season. 1995 Rugby World Cup Final
The 1995 Rugby World Cup Final was the final match of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, played in South Africa. The match was played at Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg on 24 June 1995 between the host nation, South Africa, and New Zealand. South Africa won the match by three points in their first Rugby World Cup Final, which was also the first to require extra time. Unusually, the points were scored by only one player from each team, with Andrew Mehrtens of New Zealand scoring all 12 of the 'All Blacks' points, (three penalties and one drop goal) and Joel Stransky tallying all 15 points (three penalties and two drop goals) for the Springboks, including a drop goal in extra time, which sealed the victory and their first ever Rugby World Cup title.
