Wrexham Grosvenor F.C.
Wrexham Grosvenor Football Club was a Welsh football club based in Wrexham, who played in the Welsh Cup in the 1879–80 and 1880–81 seasons. The football club are first mentioned in 1876, however a cricket club of the same name existed at least a year earlier. In 1877 at a meeting held at The Walnut Tree, Wrexham, Mr F Jones was selected as club captain, with Mr J Grant as vice-captain. The following year Mr T Jones was captain, with Mr E Hopkins as vice-captain. The club are last mentioned in 1893, and are presumed to have folded around this time. They played their home fixtures at Mr Snape's Field, Chester Road, Wrexham. Wrexham ( ; cy, Wrecsam; ) is a city and the administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough in Wales. It is located between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley, near the border with Cheshire in England. Welsh Cup
The FAW Welsh Cup ( cy, Cwpan Cymdeithas Pêl-droed Cymru), currently known as the JD Welsh Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams in the Welsh football league system. It is considered the most prestigious of the cup competitions in domestic Welsh association football. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the organising body of this competition, which has been run (except during the two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic) every year since its inception in 1877–78. Arthur Lea (footballer)
Arthur Lea (23 November 1866 – 23 March 1945) was a Welsh association football, footballer who played as an inside forward for Wrexham A.F.C., Wrexham in the 1880s and 1890s. Despite having only one arm, he also made four appearances for the Wales national football team, Wales national side. Football career Lea was born in Wrexham and started his football career at the age of 15 when he helped launch the Wrexham Grosvenor F.C., Wrexham Grosvenor club. He started out playing at full-back although he could play on the left wing when required. Despite only having one arm, he possessed "a natural flair with the ball" and his "all-round skill on the field" compensated for his disability, being noted for his "tremendous and powerful kick". Harry Trainer
Harry Trainer (1872 – May 1924) was a Welsh international footballer. He was part of the Wales national football team, playing three matches and scoring two goals. He played his first match on 16 March 1895 against Ireland and his last match on 23 March 1895 against Scotland. At club level, he played for Leicester Fosse and was topscorer of the team of the 1895–96 season with 14 goals. James Trainer (7 January 1863 in Wrexham – 5 August 1915 in Paddington, Central London, England) was a Welsh association football player of the Victorian era.
