Wrestling At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place in the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall and was split into two disciplines, Freestyle and Greco-Roman which are further divided into different weight categories. Men competed in both disciplines whereas women only took part in the Freestyle event with 18 gold medals being contested in all. This was the first Olympic Games that included women's wrestling events on the program. Ano Liosia Olympic Hall
Ano Liosia Olympic Hall is a multi-purpose and multi-sport indoor arena that is located in Ano Liosia, a suburb of Athens, Greece. The arena was mainly used to host various martial arts tournaments but from 2021 its used by AEK B.C. for its home games in the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. Aydın Polatçı (born 15 May 1977) is a Turkish wrestler. He was born in Istanbul. He was Olympic bronze medalist in Freestyle wrestling in 2004. He also competed at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics. Wrestling career Aydın Polatçı grew up in his birthplace and took up wrestling there in 1993, having previously competed in the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling. He became a heavyweight at 1.90 metres tall and around 125 kg in body weight.
