Wreck And Reference
Wreck and Reference is an experimental rock group based in Los Angeles, California. They compose their sound as experimentation with vocal styles over electronic instrumentation using samples, synthesizers and acoustics. The group has been associated with San Francisco-based record label The Flenser. History Wreck and Reference (sometimes stylized as Wreck & Reference or W&R) started out as a garage project in Davis, CA in 2009. The band began drawing mainstream attention after the release of the ''Y̶o̶u̶t̶h̶'' LP and the ''C̶o̶n̶t̶e̶n̶t̶'' EP (pronounced "No Youth" and "No Content") in 2012. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. The Flenser (also known as Flenser Records) is a San Francisco-based record label specializing in experimental music. Deafheaven
Deafheaven is an American post-metal band formed in 2010. Originally based in San Francisco, the group began as a two-piece with singer George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, who recorded and self-released a demo album together. Following its release, Deafheaven recruited three new members and began to tour. Before the end of 2010, the band signed to Deathwish Inc. and later released their debut album ''Roads to Judah,'' in April 2011. They established a unique style blending black metal, shoegazing, and post-rock, among other influences, later called "blackgaze" by reviewers. Deafheaven's second album, ''Sunbather'', was released in 2013 to wide critical acclaim, becoming one of the best reviewed albums of the year in the US. The Body (band)
The Body is an American experimental metal duo that was formed in 1999 in Providence, Rhode Island by guitarist/vocalist Chip King and drummer/programmer Lee Buford. As of 2022, they have released seven solo full length albums as well as fifteen collaborative LPs, nine EP's, four splits, two compilations, two singles, and one collaborative live album. Bosse-de-Nage is an American band from San Francisco, California, United States, composed of four anonymous members. Considered as a part of the blackgaze scene, the band performs an experimental music, experimental black metal style that draws from post-rock, shoegazing, shoegaze, post-hardcore, screamo, and indie rock, with influences from Slint, Mogwai (band), Mogwai, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Planning for Burial is the musical project of American musician and singer-songwriter Thom Wasluck. Based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Wasluck started to perform as "Burial" in 2005 and released the debut album, ''Leaving'' in 2009. Wasluck plays all instruments during both his home recordings and live performances.
