Arthur Wragg (3 January 1903 – 17 August 1976) was a British illustrator. His stark poster-like artwork often dealt with themes of social alienation and spiritual emptiness. All his work was done for publication, rather than in 'fine art' media such as paintings or series of prints. As a result, he has been neglected in comparison with contemporaries such as Graham Sutherland and John Piper (artist), John Piper, but Wragg's choice of medium was an ideological one. As a socialist and pacifist, Wragg wanted his art to speak directly to common people rather than to art-lovers. His vivid, polemical style had considerable influence on other popular forms in the 1940s and 1950s, such as government information posters and advertising. Doug Wragg
Douglas Wragg (12 September 1934 – 9 November 2020) was an English professional footballer who played as a winger in the Football League. Career Wragg was spotted by West Ham United while playing a youth football final at Wembley in 1953 and signed professional forms with the club in June of that year. He made his debut in an Essex Professional Cup semi-final game against Colchester United on 11 November 1954, but his involvement with the army disrupted his football career and he didn't play his first League game until 27 August 1956, against Blackburn Rovers. Wragg moved to Mansfield Town in March 1960 and played 13 games that season, scoring 2 goals. He was their top scorer for the 1960–61 season with 11 goals in 33 games. He then moved to Rochdale and was a part of the team that reached the 1962 League Cup Final. Geoff Wragg
Geoff Wragg (9 January 1930 – 15 September 2017) was a Thoroughbred horse trainer who trained champion horses such as Teenoso and Pentire. He was the son of former jockey and trainer Harry Wragg, from whom he took over the licence at Abington Place, Newmarket in 1983 upon his father's retirement. Wragg retired in 2008 after 25 years of training and sold Abington Place to Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum the following spring. He relocated to Yorkshire, the birthplace of his late father, Harry Wragg. He died in 2017. Harry Wragg
Harry Wragg (10 June 1902 – 20 October 1985) was a British jockey and racehorse trainer, who gained the nickname "The Head Waiter" due to his "come from behind" riding style. In a 27-year riding career, Wragg rode over 1700 winners in Britain and Ireland, including three victories in The Derby and ten in other British Classic Races. He then embarked on a successful 36-year training career, in which he trained many important winners including five more classics. He retired in 1982 and died three years later. Herbert Wragg
Sir Herbert Wragg (1880 – 13 February 1956) was a British Conservative Party politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Belper in Derbyshire from 1923 to 1929 and from 1931 to 1945. He was first elected at the 1923 general election, winning the seat from the Liberal MP John Hancock. He was re-elected at the 1924 election, but at the 1929 general election he lost the seat to the Labour candidate Jack Lees. Wragg regained the seat at the 1931 general election, and represented Belper in the House of Commons until he retired at the 1945 general election. He was a son of John Downing and Maria Wragg; his two brothers, Frederick William and Norman John, were killed in the First World War. The family grave is in St Wystan's Churchyard, Bretby. William Arthur Wragg (1875 – after 1904) was an English professional footballer who made 119 appearances in the Football League playing for Nottingham Forest, Leicester Fosse, Small Heath and Chesterfield Town. Wragg was born in Radford, Nottinghamshire. Nottingham Forest He played local football before joining Nottingham Forest in April 1896. Wragg made his debut on 28 November 1896 at home against Liverpool. In the early part of his career he played at wing half, and from this position he created Forest's first goal in the 1898 FA Cup Final. From his free kick from the left near the by-line, the ball came to Arthur Capes who shot through a crowd of defenders. Wragg later aggravated a first-half injury and had to move out to the wing, unable to take much further part in the game. He made 58 appearances in all competitions for Forest. William Peter Wragg (born 11 December 1987) is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Hazel Grove in Greater Manchester since May 2015.
