Wrack (mathematics)
In mathematics, racks and quandles are sets with binary operations satisfying axioms analogous to the Reidemeister moves used to manipulate knot diagrams. While mainly used to obtain invariants of knots, they can be viewed as algebraic constructions in their own right. In particular, the definition of a quandle axiomatizes the properties of conjugation in a group. History In 1943, Mituhisa Takasaki (高崎光久) introduced an algebraic structure which he called a ''Kei'' (圭), which would later come to be known as an involutive quandle. His motivation was to find a nonassociative algebraic structure to capture the notion of a reflection in the context of finite geometry. The idea was rediscovered and generalized in (unpublished) 1959 correspondence between John Conway and Gavin Wraith, who at the time were undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge. Wrack (seaweed)
Wrack is part of the common names of several species of seaweed in the family Fucaceae. It may also refer more generally to any seaweeds or seagrasses that wash up on beaches and may accumulate in the wrack zone. It consists largely of species of ''Fucus'' — brown seaweeds with flat branched ribbon-like fronds, characterized in '' F. serratus'' by a saw-toothed margin and in '' F. vesiculosus'', another common species, by bearing air-bladders. Another component of sea wrack may be seagrasses such as ''Zostera marina'' a marine flowering plant with bright green long narrow grass-like leaves. ''Wrack'' is a novel written by Australian author James Bradley. It was first published in 1997 by Random House Australia. The novel centres around archaeologist David Norfolk as he searches for a Portuguese shipwreck off the coast of New South Wales. James Bradley (Australian Writer)
James Bradley (born 1967) is an Australian novelist and critic. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, he trained as a lawyer before becoming a writer. Bradley's novels, which have been published internationally, explore both past and future. His books include seven novels and a book of poetry. He has also edited two anthologies, ''Blur'', a collection of writing by young Australian writers, and ''The Penguin Book of the Ocean''. Bradley also writes as a critic, with reviews and articles appearing regularly in Australian newspapers and magazines, and blogs at City of Tongues. In 2012 he won the Pascall Prize for Criticism and was named Australian Critic of the Year. He lives in Sydney with his partner, the novelist Mardi McConnochie. Darren Wrack (born 5 May 1976) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He scored 55 goals from 509 league and cup appearances in a 17-year career in the English Football League and Conference. He began his career at Derby County in 1994, and helped the club to win promotion out of the First Division in 1995–96, before he was sold on to Grimsby Town in July 1996. He never established himself in the Grimsby first team, and had a brief loan spell at Shrewsbury Town, before moving on to Walsall in July 1998. Matthew D. Wrack (born 23 May 1962) is a British trade unionist and former firefighter. He was elected General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in May 2005. Politics Wrack joined the Labour Party Young Socialists in Salford in 1978 and was a member of Farnworth Constituency Labour Party during the period in which the local MP John Roper left Labour to join the Social Democratic Party. Wrack subsequently moved to London, working for a time in the DHSS before joining the fire service. Wrack was active in the Labour Party Young Socialists before going on to join the Socialist Party, which he had left by the time he was elected to lead the FBU in 2005. His union disaffiliated from the Labour Party in 2004 but reaffiliated in November 2015. In March 2016, he rejoined the Labour Party. ''Wrack'' is a single-player, Cel shading, cel shaded first-person shooter video game developed and published by Final Boss Entertainment for Microsoft Windows. The full release of the game was on September 30, 2014. The game was mostly inspired by games such as Doom (1993 video game), Doom and Megaman (video game), Mega Man. Gameplay Wrack is a single-player, cel shaded first person shooter where the player takes control of the protagonist named Kain from a first-person perspective. The player has to fight through many levels of aliens and cyborgs in a science fiction scenario. The game is structured in chapters, where the player has to activate switches to proceed to the next room and every chapter includes one boss battle.
