Woyzeck (musical)
''Woyzeck'' is a 2000 musical with music and lyrics by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and book by Robert Wilson, based on the unfinished play ''Woyzeck'' by German playwright Georg Büchner. It is Waits, Brennan and Wilson's third collaboration, after the 1990 musical ''The Black Rider'' and the 1992 musical ''Alice''. Waits recorded many of the songs from ''Woyzeck'' for his 2002 album ''Blood Money'', which was released alongside ''Alice'', his recording of songs from the musical ''Alice''. ''Woyzeck'' premiered in November 2000 in a Danish production at the Betty Nansen Teatret in Copenhagen, with dialogue in Danish and songs sung in English; Jens Jørn Spottag played the title role. Tom Waits
Thomas Alan Waits (born December 7, 1949) is an American musician, composer, songwriter, and actor. His lyrics often focus on the underbelly of society and are delivered in his trademark deep, gravelly voice. He worked primarily in jazz during the 1970s, but his music since the 1980s has reflected greater influence from blues, rock, vaudeville, and experimental genres. Waits was born and raised in a middle-class family in California. Inspired by the work of Bob Dylan and the Beat Generation, he began singing on the San Diego folk music circuit as a young man. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1972, where he worked as a songwriter before signing a recording contract with Asylum Records. Barbican Centre
The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre in the Barbican Estate of the City of London and the largest of its kind in Europe. A rock opera is a collection of rock music songs with lyrics that relate to a common story. The Shotgun Players is a California East Bay regional theatre group located in Berkeley, California. It runs 6 to 7 productions per season. Carriageworks is a multi-arts urban cultural precinct located at the former Eveleigh Railway Workshops in Redfern, Sydney, Australia. Carriageworks showcases contemporary art and performing arts, as well as being used for filming, festivals, fairs and commercial exhibitions. Thalia Theater (Hamburg)
The Thalia Theater is one of the three state-owned theatres in Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1843 by Charles Maurice Schwartzenberger and named after the muse Thalia. The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a performing arts venue in Brooklyn, New York City, known as a center for progressive and avant-garde performance.
