Albert Worthy
Albert Worthy (1 November 1905 – 1 February 1978) was an English professional footballer who made 332 appearances in the Football League playing for Chesterfield, Lincoln City, Southend United and Rochdale. He played as a right back. Life and career Worthy was born in Pilsley, Derbyshire, and played football for Danesmoor before joining Chesterfield. He played seven league games during the 1926–27 season before moving on to Third Division North rivals Lincoln City. He scored his first Football League goal from a free kick in a 5–0 defeat of Barrow in October 1928. He rarely missed a match in his first five seasons with the club, at the end of which they won the Third Division North title and consequent promotion. Worthy was not a regular first choice in the Second Division, and left the club for Southend United of the Third Division South in the 1933 close season. Allan Worthy (born 1 January 1974) is an English cricketer. Worthy is a right-handed batsman who bowls medium pace. He was born at South Hetton, County Durham. He was the first ever to reach 10,000 North East Premier League runs. Worthy made his debut in List A cricket for the Durham Cricket Board against the Leicestershire Cricket Board in the 2000 NatWest Trophy. From 2000 to 2003, he represented the Board in four List A matches, the last of which came against Glamorgan in the 2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. Chandler Regis Worthy (born September 15, 1993) is a Canadian football wide receiver for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2015, and has also been a member of the New York Jets. He played college football at Troy. Christopher John Worthy (October 23, 1947 – August 2, 2007) was a British-born Canadian ice hockey player who played 81 games in the World Hockey Association and 26 games in the National Hockey League between 1968 and 1976 with the Edmonton Oilers and California Golden Seals. Christopher John Worthy was born in Bristol, England, United Kingdom, but grew up in Ontario, Canada. He attended college at Harvard University. James Ager Worthy (born February 27, 1961) is an American sports commentator, television host, analyst, and former professional basketball player. Jerel Worthy (born April 26, 1990) is a former American football defensive tackle. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. William Worthy, Jr. (July 7, 1921 – May 4, 2014) was an African-American journalist, civil rights activist, and dissident who pressed his right to travel regardless of U.S. State Department regulations. Biography Early life Worthy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, as the son of a wealthy obstetrician. He graduated Boston Latin High School and received a B.A. degree in sociology from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, in 1942. Worthy was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, class of 1957. During World War II, Worthy was sentenced to one day in prison for dodging a physical examination for military service and failing to register at a conscientious objector's camp.
