Worthington's Quarters
Worthington's Quarters, White Hall, Glen Burnie, Iris Hill, is a historic forced-labor farm in Columbia in Howard County, Maryland, United States. The stucco-covered brick plantation house resides on a 150-acre tract, "Wincopin Neck", surveyed for Richard and Benjamin Warfield. The land tract "Worthington's Addition" was also considered part of the estate when started as early as 1710. Richard Warfiled II (??-1755) hired out the property (called "Warfield's Contrivance") and house to Alexander Warfield and Elizabeth Ridgely in 1755, who had opened and operated a mill in 1750, downstream from the site at Guilford, Maryland. Rezin and Honor (Howard) Warfield lived onsite next. Their daughter Anne Warfield and Revolutionary War Major Richard Lawrance settled there next, calling the manor "White Hall". Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland. It is one of the principal communities of the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. Columbia began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. A plantation complex in the Southern United States is the built environment (or complex) that was common on agricultural plantations in the American South from the 17th into the 20th century. The complex included everything from the main residence down to the pens for livestock. Until the abolition of slavery, such plantations were generally self-sufficient settlements that relied on the forced labor of enslaved people. Guilford is an unincorporated community located in Howard County in the state of Maryland. The location is named after the Guilford Mill. Guilford is near Kings Contrivance, one of the nine "villages" of Columbia. For United States Census Bureau statistics, Guilford is split between the census-designated places of Savage and Columbia. History The area around Guilford was settled before it was called by the name of its mill. Montpelier Mansion, sometimes referred to as "Montpelier I", was a house in western Laurel, Maryland, now more closely associated with Fulton, Maryland within Howard County, Maryland, United States. Wincopia Farms
Wincopia Farms is a historic farm located at North Laurel, Howard County, Maryland, United States. Wincopia farms was one of three large farms in the area. Overlook Farm and Fairlands remain well preserved, but the 124 acre Wincopia Farms was purchased for development. The Hearn family operated it until 2010. While some sources claim the Hearn family owned the farm for over 200 years, the title history shows the family purchased the farm in 1880. They raised poinsettias with customers that included the White House and Kennedy Center. On September 8, 1992, a man and a teenager attempted a series of failed carjackings starting at the southbound I-95 rest stop on Wincopin property leased by the Hearn Family through the Bolling Brook subdivisions. Hickory Ridge (Highland, Maryland)
Hickory Ridge or White Hall is an historic property located in Highland in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is registered in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties. The 500-acre property known as Hickory Ridge was surveyed by Henry Ridgely III (1690–1749) ("Col. Henry Ridgely"), a grandson of pioneering surveyor Henry Ridgely (1640–1710) who had been granted land by George II of Great Britain. On Henry Ridgely III's death in 1749, the tract was deeded to his son Greenberry Ridgely (1726–1783), who built a stone cottage the same year, which still stands. In 1760 or 1789, Ridgely began building the Georgian architecture primary residence. The building is a two-and-a-half-story structure made of Flemish brick bond.
