Wormley Rovers Football Club is a association football, football club based in Wormley, Hertfordshire, Wormley, Hertfordshire. They are currently members of the and play at Wormley Playing Fields. History Wormley Football Club was founded in 1921, but folded in 1926. After failed attempts to reform the club during the 1930s, it was revived in 1946. They went on to have success in junior football between the late 1940s and early 1960s, after which the club joined Division Three of the Hertfordshire Senior County League, Hertfordshire County League in 1976. They won the division at the first attempt, earning promotion to Division Two. After missing out on another promotion on goal difference in 1979–80, the club were runners-up in Division Two the following season and were promoted to Division One. Wormley is a village and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Hoddesdon, in the Broxbourne district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. The village is part of the census ward of Wormley and Turnford, which had a population of 8,146 at the 2001 census. In 1931 the parish had a population of 930. Geography Wormley is located east of the A10 road, which links Cambridge to London, commonly known as the Great Cambridge Road. Wormley is sandwiched between Broxbourne and Turnford with a high road of shops. It is 1 mile south of Broxbourne, and the nearest railway station is Broxbourne. Wormley is close to the River Lea which runs from Luton towards Wheathampstead, then south towards London where it meets the River Thames. The 2023–24 FA Vase (known for sponsorship reasons as the Isuzu FA Vase) is the 50th season of the FA Vase, an annual football competition for teams playing in levels 9 and 10 (steps 5 & 6) of the English National League System. The competition is played on a regional basis until the 4th round. The defending champions were Ascot United but they were unable to defend their trophy due to their promotion to the Isthmian League South Central Division. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. Turnford, Hertfordshire
Turnford is a village in the Borough of Broxbourne, in Hertfordshire, England, in an area generally known as the Lee Valley. It is bounded by Wormley to the north, Cheshunt to the south and west, and its eastern boundary is formed largely by the Lee Navigation. Central London at Charing Cross is approximately south. At the 2001 census, together with Wormley, the village had a population of 8,146 in 3,399 households. History Turnford lies in a site where evidence of Palaeolithic, Late Bronze Age and Iron Age relics have been recorded. By the late Saxon period the village existed as a farm belonging to the manor of Cheshunt. A Benedictine nunnery was established in the 12th century on Turnford Marsh. Part of the medieval buildings survived within a farm until gravel quarrying destroyed the remains in 1955. The 2023–24 Eastern Counties Football League is the 81st season in the history of the Eastern Counties Football League, a football competition in England. Teams are divided into three divisions, the Premier Division at Step 5, and the geographically separated Division One North and Division One South (Eastern Senior League), both at Step 6 of the English football league system. The constitution was announced on 15 May 2023. Starting this season, the two step 5 divisions in the league will each promote two clubs; one as champions and one via a four-team play-off.
