World Triathlon Winter Championships
The World Triathlon Winter Championships is a winter triathlon championship competition organised by World Triathlon World Triathlon, previously known as the International Triathlon Union (ITU), is the international Sports governing body, governing body for the Multisport race, multi-sport disciplines of triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and other triathlon#Nonsta .... The competition has been held annually since 1997. Unlike normal triathlon races the winter triathlon discipline takes place in snow-covered terrain. The snow therefore means the normal disciplines of swimming and road cycling do not take place, instead the championship typically involves running, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. Winter Triathlon
Winter triathlon is a multisport event involving the continuous and sequential completion of snowshoeing or running, mountain biking or speed skating and cross-country skiing, all on snow. Course distances are set on the day of the event to achieve a winning time around 80–90 minutes, after taking account of the snow conditions. Since 2013, the International Triathlon Union created a new version of the sport, which consist of 12km of ice skating, 8km of cross-country skiing and 5 km of snowshoeing. It is called winter triathlon S3, because the three sports start with an S (skate, ski, snowshoe). The first ITU event was held in Quebec, Canada in February 2015. However, the Canadian national winter triathlon championships have been running for over 30 years. The Winterlude Triathlon is the oldest established winter triathlon in Canada. Tor Halvor Bjørnstad (born 17 May 1978) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier, biathlete and winter triathlete. He made his World Cup debut in March 2002 in Holmenkollen, with a 30th place in the 50 km race. In the same race in 2006 he finished 28th, and in the same race in 2008 he finished 27th. Zeltweg is a town in Styria, Austria. It is located in the Aichfeld basin of the Mur River in Upper Styria. Larger municipalities in the vicinity are Judenburg, Knittelfeld and Fohnsdorf.
