The World Triathlon Duathlon Championships is a duathlon championship competition organised by World Triathlon. The race has been held annually since 1990. The championships involve a continuous run-cycle-run, with the format since 1994 being a first run of 10 km, a cycle of 40 km and a second run of 5 km (distances varied prior to 1994). Oscar Galíndez
Oscar Saul Galíndez (born June 5, 1971, in Río Tercero, Córdoba, Argentina) is a triathlete. He competed in the first Olympic triathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics, obtaining the twenty-eighth place with a total time of 1:50:59.48. Galíndez, began in triathlon when his was 16 year old. He soon was able to win the Hexa-championship "Trofeu Brasil de Triatlo" and Duathlon World Championship. In 1995, Galíndez decided to move and live in Brazil, where the training and races conditions were better than in Argentina. Oscar has won innumerable victories that have made him build a great sporting career with more than 29 years of victories, becoming the foremost Argentinean in his specialty and one of the best triathletes in Latin America, as well as in the world. Stephanie Emma Forrester (born 30 April 1969) is a British triathlete from Aberdeen. Forrester competed at the first Olympic triathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She took 15th place with a total time of 2:03:56.11. That same year, Forrester took first place at the 2000 ITU Duathlon World Championships in Calais, France. Benny Vansteelant
Benny Vansteelant (19 November 1976 – 14 September 2007) was a Belgian duathlete. For the first decade of the 21st century he was the uncontested icon of Duathlon, winning more than 80% of the races he started at. Life He was born in Torhout. A book describing his early life and his rise to the top of the duathlon scene has been published in Dutch ( "Meneer Duatlon"). On September 8, 2007, Vansteelant was hit by a car during training on his bike. He suffered a broken leg, facial injuries, a torn spleen and damage to lungs and heart. In the days after the accident, he seemed to recover well and was getting close to leaving the intensive care section of the hospital in Roeselare on September 13. But one day later, Vansteelant suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite receiving CPR in time, he died of a pulmonary embolism in the early morning.
