World Bowls Tour Awards
The World Bowls Tour Awards are the annual awards ceremony hosted by the World Bowls Tour to recognise the achievements of the bowls players who compete on the World Bowls Tour (WBT). The annual event is usually held in January, which take place just before the World Indoor Bowls Championships begins. The annual World Bowls Tour Hall of Fame induction happens at the annual awards ceremony too, which was launched along with the inaugural World Bowls Tour Awards ceremony in 2008. World Bowls Tour
The World Bowls Tour is an international organisation which promotes indoor bowls worldwide and organises competitions, including the World Indoor Bowls Championships with other bowls associations. Its parent organisation is the Professional Bowls Association. History On 1 January 1997, under the then chairman Richard Corsie, the PBA created the World Bowls Tour (WBT) and after the 1997 championship replaced the World Indoor Bowls Council as the leading indoor organisation. The purpose of the World Bowls Tour was to set up and create championships and competitions to further the aims of the PBA. Mervyn King (bowls)
Mervyn John King (born 4 January 1966, in King's Lynn) is an international lawn and indoor bowler from Fakenham. Bowls career King has represented England at three Commonwealth Games, the 2002, 2006 and the 2010 Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal, with Stuart Airey, in the men's pairs competition. He has also won two bronze medals at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr in the triples and fours events. Jonny Ross
Jonathan Stewart Ross is a Northern Irish bowler who was born in Lisburn. He now represents Scotland after moving there. Bowls career He was part of the winning Irish Fours team in the 2004 World Bowls Championships held in Ayr, Scotland with Jim Baker, Neil Booth and Noel Graham. He also won the British Isles Singles titles in 2001 and 2002 and was the first Irish player to win the Scottish outdoors singles title. Jonathan partnered Noel Graham to win the prestigious Hong Kong International Bowls Classic pairs title on a record equalling three occasions. In 2006, he represented Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. Katherine Rednall
Katherine Rednall (born 7 January 1996) is an English lawn and indoor bowler from Stowmarket. She is record five times women's world indoor singles champion. Bowls career Indoors Rednall became the youngest ever winner of a World Indoor Bowls title after she won the 2014 World Indoor Bowls Championship Women's Singles at the age of just 18. Rednall reached the final of the 2015 World Indoor Bowls Championship losing out to Laura Thomas in the decider. Rednall experienced further success after winning the Mixed Pairs title in 2016 with bowls partner Darren Burnett. She won a second singles title in 2017 after defeating Ellen Falkner in the final and a third singles title during the 2018 World Indoor Bowls Championship defeating Rebecca Field in the final. Nick Brett
Nick Brett (born 14 May 1974) is an English lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Brett bowls for the Huntingdon indoor bowls club and Brampton outdoor bowls club. He was ranked the indoor world number 1 in 2015 and 2016. and also won an outdoors National Title in 1999 and subsequent singles at the British Isles Bowls Championships in 2000. Brett's greatest achievement before 2016 was winning the 2014 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs title partnering Greg Harlow. It was during the 2016 World Indoor Bowls Championship that Brett became the World Singles Champion for the first time beating Robert Paxton in a competitive final. Willie Wood (bowler)
William Walker Wood MBE (born 26 April 1938 in Haddington, East Lothian) is a former Scottish professional bowls player, who has mainly competed in the outdoor or lawn form of the game. He is regarded as one of the leading bowlers of his generation and his list of achievements include appearing at eight Commonwealth Games and winning two gold medals and eight World Bowls Championship gold medals. Early life Wood took up bowls at the age of 12, perhaps unsurprisingly as his father, grandfather and mother all played the sport. With little else to occupy his time, Wood says he elected to bowl in his home village of Gifford, rather than brave the bus journey to the swimming baths at nearby North Berwick. Wood undertook his national service with the British Army, joining aged 18, serving in Germany with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Alison Merrien
Alison Jayne Merrien (born 28 November 1974) is an indoor bowls player from Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. Bowls career Indoors Merrien won double gold in the women's singles defeating Karen Murphy and the mixed pairs with Simon Skelton the 2011 World Indoor Bowls Championship. She won a third medal eight years later in 2019 losing out to Julie Forrest of Scotland in the final. In 2022, she finally claimed a third title when winning the mixed pairs with Paul Foster and also reached the women's singles final. In the southern hemisphere equivalent the World Cup Singles she has won two titles in 2008 and 2012 and has finished runner up on three more occasions. Robert Paxton (bowls)
Robert Paxton is an English international outdoor and indoor bowls player. Bowls career Robert is from Crediton, Devon and plays out of the Exonia club indoors and out of Crediton BC. and won the 2011 Scottish International Open. In 2013, he won two gold medals at the European Bowls Championships in Spain. In 2015 Paxton partnered Simon Skelton when they won the 2015 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs title and the 2015 world mixed pairs title with Marion Purcell and he held a career high world indoor ranking of 2 in 2015. David Gourlay
David Gourlay is a Scottish (and former Australian) international lawn & indoor bowler from the Prestwick Bowling Club and Crookston Bowling Club. He is also a Commonwealth Games medal winning coach. Bowls career Gourlay, a Glaswegian, first took up the game aged 11 following the success of his father David Gourlay Sr. at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and his mother Sarah Gourlay at the 1985 World Outdoor Championships. John Price (bowls)
John Haydn Price is a former Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler and current bowls commentator. Bowls career Early life Brought into the game by his grandparents at the age of 10, and as a schoolboy, he initially played only during the summer holidays, winning a couple of open tournaments in partnership with his father Harry. He started to take bowls seriously after earning his first Wales cap in 1979. Ian John Bond (born 8 June 1973) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler. Bond plays for the Exonia indoor bowls club and the Crediton outdoor bowls club.
