WorldView-1
''WorldView-1'' (WV 1) is a commercial earth observation satellite owned by DigitalGlobe. WorldView-1 was launched on 18 September 2007, followed later by the ''WorldView-2'' in 2009. First imagery from ''WorldView-1'' was available in October 2007, prior to the six-year anniversary of the launch of ''QuickBird'', DigitalGlobe's previous satellite. ''WorldView-1'' was partially financed through an agreement with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Some of the imagery captured by ''WorldView-1'' for the NGA is not available to the general public. However, ''WorldView-1'' freed capacity on DigitalGlobe's ''QuickBird'' satellite to meet the growing commercial demand for multi-spectral geospatial imagery. ''WorldView-2'' provides commercially available panchromatic imagery of resolution, and eight-band multispectral imagery with resolution. It was launched 8 October 2009 to become DigitalGlobe's third satellite in orbit, joining ''WorldView-1'' which was launched in 2007 and ''QuickBird'' which was launched in 2001. It takes a new photograph of any place on Earth every 1.1 days. Design Ball Aerospace built the spacecraft, which includes an optical telescope that can image objects in diameter. ''GeoEye-1'' is a high-resolution Earth observation satellite owned by DigitalGlobe, launched in September 2008. The satellite was acquired in the 2013 purchase of GeoEye. History On 1 December 2004, General Dynamics C4 Systems announced it had been awarded a contract worth approximately to build the ''OrbView-5'' satellite. Its sensor is designed by the ITT Exelis. The satellite, now known as ''GeoEye-1'', was originally scheduled for launch in April 2008 but lost its 30-day launch slot to a U.S. government mission which had itself been delayed. An Earth observation satellite or Earth remote sensing satellite is a satellite used or designed for Earth observation (EO) from orbit, including spy satellites and similar ones intended for non-military uses such as environmental monitoring, meteorology, cartography and others. Space Launch Complex 2 (SLC-2) is an active rocket launch site at Vandenberg Space Force Base, in California, USA. It consists of two launch pads. The East pad (SLC-2E, originally LC 75-1-1) was used for Delta, Thor-Agena and Thorad launches between 1966 and 1972 and has been demolished. The West pad (SLC-2W, originally LC 75-1-2) was used for Delta, Thor-Agena and Delta II launches from 1966 until 2018, when the Delta II performed its last flight. SLC-2W has been repurposed to launch Firefly Alpha for Firefly Aerospace and on October 15, 2020 the Delta II mobile service tower suffered a fire during demolition. The maiden flight of Firefly Alpha took place on September 3, 2021 and resulted in a flight failure. The second flight on 1 October 2022 was successful in reaching orbit. Panchromatic emulsion is a type of black-and-white photographic emulsion that is sensitive to all wavelengths of visible light. Description A panchromatic emulsion renders a realistic reproduction of a scene as it appears to the human eye, although with no colors. Almost all modern photographic film is panchromatic. Some older types of film were orthochromatic and were not sensitive to certain wavelengths of light. As naturally prepared, a silver halide photographic emulsion is much more sensitive to blue and UV light than to green and red wavelengths. The German chemist Hermann W. Vogel found out how to extend the sensitivity into the green, and later the orange, by adding sensitising dyes to the emulsion.
