''Hakim'' Workneh Eshete or Azaj Warqnah Ishete, also known as Charles Martin (21 October 1864 – 9 October 1952) was the first Ethiopian educated as a medical doctor, and an Ethiopian intellectual. He led the Ethiopian diplomatic mission to the Ethiopia-United States relations, United States in 1927, which negotiated a contract to build a dam on the upper Abay River; and, beginning in 1934, he served as Foreign relations of Ethiopia, Ethiopia's Minister to the United Kingdom. Early life Workneh was born in Gondar, the son of ''Negadras'' Eshete Woldemariam. ''Nagadras'' Eshete had been forced to join Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia, Tewodros II in his retreat to Amba Mariam, Magdala, where the emperor made his Battle of Magdala, final stand against the invading 1868 Expedition to Abyssinia, British soldiers in 1868. Workneh Gebeyehu Negewo ( om, Warqinaa Gabayyoo; am, ወርቅነህ ገበየሁ, born 16 July 1968) is an Ethiopian politician. In September 2012, he was appointed Ministry of Transport and Communications (Ethiopia), Ministry of Transport and he has served as an elected member of Addis Ababa City Council. Career He studied BA in Political Science and International Relations (1991) and MA in International Relations (2006) at Addis Ababa University. He has been a member of Oromo People's Democratic Organization and EPRDF (Since 2019 the Prosperity Party) since 1991 and an executive member of both parties since 2012 and commissioner general of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Ethiopian Federal Police Commission from 2001 to 2012. Since 1 November 2016 he had served as Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ethiopia), Minister of Foreign Affairs following a cabinet reshuffle, succeeding Tedros Adhanom, before he was appointed as the 6th Executive Secretary of IGAD in November 2019.
