The Worker-communist Party of Iran – Hekmatist is an opposition Iranian political party in exile. Its current secretary of central committee is Jamal Kamangar and its current Chair of the Politburo is Siavash Daneshvar. History The WPI-Hekmatist was formed in 2004 after a major split from the Worker-communist Party of Iran (WPI). More than half of the WPI's Central Committee and almost all of its Kurdistan Committee joined the WPI-Hekmatist. The leadership of Worker-Communist Party of Iraq also supported this move and it is now the sister party of the WPI-Hekmatist. The other split was in 2012 under the same name Worker-Communist Party-Hekmatist. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ( ku, حکوومەتی هەرێمی کوردستان, ''Hikûmetî Herêmî Kurdistan'') is the official executive body of the autonomous Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq. The 2011 Kurdish protests in Iraq were a series of demonstrations and riots against the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraqi Kurdistan. The autonomous region experienced protests that were concurrent with the 2011 Iraqi protests and the wider Arab Spring. The Iraqi Kurdish protests were also related to the 2011 Kurdish protests in Turkey and the 2011–2012 Iranian protests, as well as the civil uprising phase of the Syrian Civil War. Iraqi Kurdistan or Southern Kurdistan ( ku, باشووری کوردستان, Başûrê Kurdistanê) refers to the Kurdish-populated part of northern Iraq.
