The Worcestershire County Cricket Club Open or Worcestershire CCC Open was a late 19th century men's and women's grass court tennis tournament played at the Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Boughton Cricket Ground, Worcester, Worcestershire, England.. Grass Court
A grass court is one of the four different types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Grass courts are made of grasses in different compositions depending on the tournament. Although grass courts are more traditional than other types of tennis courts, maintenance costs of grass courts are higher than those of hard courts and clay courts. Grass courts (in the absence of suitable covers) must be left for the day if rain appears, as the grass becomes very slippery when wet and will not dry for many hours. This is a disadvantage on outdoor courts compared to using hard and clay surfaces, where play can resume in 30 to 120 minutes after the end of rain. Worcestershire County Cricket Club
Worcestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Worcestershire. Its Vitality Blast T20 team has been rebranded the Worcestershire Rapids, but the county is known by most fans as 'the Pears'. The club is based at New Road, Worcester. Founded in 1865, Worcestershire held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship in the 1890s, winning the competition three times. John Redfern Deykin
John Redfern Deykin born (27 July 1867 – 30 March 1899) also known as Redfern Deykin or J.R. Deykin was an English tennis player of the late 19th century. In 1884 competed at both the Irish Championships and Wimbledon Championships, then considered two of the most important major tennis events. He was active from 1881 until 1894 and contested 24 career singles finals, and won 11 titles. Career Deykin played his first tennis event in at the 1881 Oxford University Champion Tournament (whilst studying there) losing in the first round. In 1882 he reached the final of the Edgbaston Open Tournament losing to Robert Braddell. In 1884 he played at the Midland Counties Championships and reached the final losing to Walter William Chamberlain in three sets. In June 1886 he played and won his first title at the Leamington Open Tournament Harry Brain. Walter William Chamberlain (March 1862 – 26 July 1923) was an English tennis player then later surgeon and general practitioner. He was active from 1881 to 1886 and won 6 career singles titles.
