Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School, commonly known as W.T. Woodson High School or simply Woodson, is a high school located in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the east end of the city of Fairfax, opposite the shopping center on Main Street. The school opened in 1962 and was once the largest school in the state. It is named for W. T. Woodson, who served as Fairfax County School Superintendent from 1929 to 1961. As of 2016, the student population was roughly 2,400. Woodson has the largest campus in Fairfax County in size of area, and also houses Woodson Adult High School, a separate education facility run by FCPS that allows adults to earn their GEDs and HS diplomas. Woodson Research Center is an archive located in Fondren Library at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The Center is named for Benjamin N. Woodson and houses the special collections of Rice University's Fondren Library which includes manuscript collections, rare books, and the Rice University archives. Within the manuscript collections, there are archives focused on specific collecting areas, which include the Houston Asian American Archive, the Houston Folk Music Archive, and the Houston Jewish History Archive. History The village was platted on May 2, 1859, and incorporated on April 9, 1894. The village is named after Judge David M. Woodson. Geography Woodson is located south of Lake Jacksonville and south of combined U.S. Route 36 and Interstate 72. Woodson is an unincorporated community in Columbia County, Oregon, United States. It is located on U.S. Route 30 seven miles west of Clatskanie and three miles east of Westport, on Westport Slough, a tributary of the Columbia River. In December 2007, the debris overflow from the flooding of Eilersten Creek caused evacuations and mud cover on Woodson Road north of the highway. Woodson was named for Woods Landing on Westport Slough, which in turn was named a man whose surname was Wood.
