It includes the 1928-built Camden County Courthouse and the Atkinson Memorial Building (210 East 4th Street). The Atkinson Building was built in 1947 according to the NRHP form, but the plaque on the building says that it was built in 1944. The courthouse was designed by architect Julian de Bruyn Kops (1862-1942) in Late Gothic Revival style and has "shaped parapets with battlements, drip-mold window crowns, and front portico with castellations". Woodbine, Georgia
Woodbine is a city in, and the county seat of, Camden County, Georgia, United States, an original county established when the state constitution was adopted in 1777. The population was 1,412 at the 2010 census. The East Coast Greenway, a 3,000 mile long system of trails connecting Maine to Florida, runs along the Woodbine Riverwalk. Spaceport Camden is being developed adjacent to the city. History Records in 1765 show that John Brown, John McGillvary, William Molyneaux and William Trowin petitioned English authorities for south of the Satilla River. They were granted the land named Pile's Bluff, which historians believe to be near Woodbine. A tract of land was granted to Anton Cunning by the state in 1808. It became known as the Woodbine Plantation. Luke John Bailey purchased it in 1835 and held it through the Civil War, during which the house was burned by Union troops. Julian De Bruyn Kops
Julian de Bruyn Kops (1862–1942) was an architect in Savannah, Georgia. Several of his works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He studied architecture and civil engineering at Lehigh and the University of Georgia. In 1892 he was the Assistant City Engineer in Savannah. By 1905 he was Savannah's superintendent of architecture. He died in Atlanta. The Camden County Courthouse (or Old Camden County Courthouse) is a two-story courthouse in the US city of Woodbine, Georgia. Gothic Revival (also referred to as Victorian Gothic, neo-Gothic, or Gothick) is an architectural movement that began in the late 1740s in England.
