Woocoo National Park
The Shire of Woocoo was a local government area located in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, containing the rural residential area to the west of the town of Maryborough, and surrounding countryside. The shire covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1914 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the City of Maryborough, City of Hervey Bay and the 1st and 2nd divisions of the Shire of Tiaro to form the Fraser Coast Region. Industry in the shire consisted of beef cattle, sugar, timber and light industry servicing Maryborough. History Woocoo was proclaimed a shire under the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'' on 4 December 1914, with its centre of administration at Brooweena. Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay () is a city on the coast of the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, Australia. The city is situated approximately or 3½ hours' highway drive north of the state capital, Brisbane. It is located on the Hervey Bay (Queensland), bay of the same name open to the Coral Sea between the Queensland mainland and nearby K'gari (Fraser Island), Fraser Island (also known as K'Gari and Gari). Brooweena War Memorial is a heritage-listed memorial at Smith Crescent, Brooweena, Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1922 by F W Webb. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Brooweena War Memorial was erected by the residents of the Woocoo Shire in late 1922. It is not known who designed the monument but it was produced by Maryborough monumental masonry firm F W Webb. The marble and sandstone memorial honours the 39 local men who served during the First World War including the 10 fallen. A later set of plates records the 43 local men and women who served in the Second World War. The strength of Brooweena's patriotic support during the First World War was remarkable. It funded an ambulance for France and has another memorial ( a privately funded bridge) south of the town. The size of the digger memorial is large in comparison to the size of the town. Brooweena is a rural town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Brooweena had a population of 104 people. Geography The town is located in the Wide Bay–Burnett area and is north of the state capital, Brisbane. It is on the Maryborough–Biggenden Road. The north-west of the locality includes a large portion of the Wongi National Park and the Wongi State Forest. History The name ''Brooweena'' is believed to be an Aboriginal word meaning ''crab''. The town was established following the arrival of the Mungar Junction to Monto Branch Railway in 1889. Brooweena Post Office opened on 23 December 1889. Braemar Provisional School opened on 21 January 1901 and closed on 1 July 1935. It closed in 1922 due to low attendances. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views". As the rough river town turned into a respectable city, its newspaper became a bi-weekly in 1864, a tri-weekly in 1868 and a daily in 1882. Thomas William Glasgow
Major General Sir Thomas William Glasgow (6 June 1876 – 4 July 1955) was a senior Australian Army officer and politician. Glasgow rose to prominence during the First World War as a brigade and later divisional commander on the Western Front. Post-war, he was elected to the Australian Senate, representing Queensland as a Nationalist Party member from 1919 to 1931, before appointment as Australian High Commissioner to Canada. In 1945, Glasgow returned to Australia and resumed his private business interests. He died in Brisbane in 1955, at the age of 79. Boompa, Queensland
Boompa is a rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Boompa had a population of 83 people. History Teebar East Provisional School opened on 29 May 1893. In 1904 the school was moved and renamed Teebar West Provisional School. On 1 Jan 1909 it became Teebar West State School. In 1930 the school was moved again and was renamed Boompa State School in March 1933. The school closed on 28 January 1963. In 1922, the residents of the Woocoo Shire erected a war memorial outside St Mary's Church of England on the Maryborough-Biggenden Road at Teebar (now within Boompa). Teebar, Queensland
Teebar is a locality in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Teebar had a population of 43 people. Geography Eel Creek and Sandy Creek form the north-western boundary of the locality. Munna Creek forms the north-eastern boundary. Teebar Creek forms the south-eastern boundary. All of these creeks are ultimately tributaries of the Mary River. The Brooweena Woolooga Road passes through the locality from south ( Malarga) to north (Brooweena). Boompa Road enters the locality from the north-west ( Boompa) and terminates at its junction with the Brooweena Woolooga Road in the north-west of the locality.
