Wong Chuk Hang San Wai
Wong Chuk Hang San Wai () is a village in the Wong Chuk Hang area of Southern District, Hong Kong. It is located at the bottom of Shouson Hill. Administration For electoral purposes, Wong Chuk Hang San Wai is part of the Bays Area constituency, which is currently represented by Jonathan Leung Chun. History Wong Chuk Hang San Wai was established in the 1860s and 1870s, as the population of nearby Wong Chuk Hang Kau Wai () grew. Wong Chuk Hang Kau Wai had been established in the 18th century by members of the Chow clan of Guangdong province. Sir Shouson Chow is said to have been born in Wong Chuk Hang San Wai in 1861. Wong Chuk Hang Kau Wai appears as 'Heung-kong-wai' (, 'Hong Kong Wai' in modern transliteration) on the "Map of the San-On District", published in 1866 by Simeone Volonteri. Shouson Chow
Sir Shouson Chow (; 1861–1959), KBE, LLD, JP, also known as Chow Cheong-Ling (), was a Hong Kong businessman. He had been a Qing dynasty official and prominent in the Government of Hong Kong. Family Chow is said to have been born in Wong Chuk Hang San Wai, a village at the foot of present-day Shouson Hill. Wong Chuk Hang San Wai was a village of a Chow lineage. His father was compradore of the Canton-based Canton and Hong Kong Steamship Company. His grandfather was the head of "Little Hong Kong", who helped Charles Elliot post the first official proclamation of Hong Kong Island in 1841. He had a son, named Chow Yat-Kwong. Career Among the third group of Chinese students sponsored by the Qing government to the United States in the 1870s, Chow left China in 1874 and studied at Phillips Academy, Andover (class of 1880) and Columbia University. Antiquities Advisory Board
The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive. The corresponding governmental ministry is the Development Bureau, and executive support for the AAB is provided by the AMO which is under the Development Bureau. Formation The Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was passed in 1971. However, the Ordinance was not "give life" and the AAB was not constituted until February of 1977. The Hong Kong Archaeological Society () is a government-funded organization dedicated to carrying out excavations and preserving archaeological heritage in Hong Kong. The society is affiliated with the Hong Kong Museum of History to establish artifact collections and journal publications. Aberdeen Tunnel
Aberdeen Tunnel, part of Route 1, is a two-tube tunnel linking Happy Valley and Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen on the Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It shortens the travel time between Wong Chuk Hang and Causeway Bay of the Hong Kong Island. It connects the Wong Chuk Hang Road and Canal Road Flyover in the Hong Kong Island. Simeone Volonteri () (June 6, 1831 – December 21,1904) was an Italian missionary and a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Life Simeone Volonteri was born in Milan, Italy. He joined the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions in 1855. He was in Hong Kong from 1860 to February 1870. During his stay in Hong Kong, he worked extensively in Tai Wo and Ting Kok. (A previous version of this paper was presented at a Seminar 'Hong Kong: its people, culture and traditions, the Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong. 15-16 April 1983) He was ordained bishop in 1874 by Eustachio Zanoli. Antiquities And Monuments Office
The Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) was established in 1976 under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance to protect and preserve Hong Kong's historic monuments.
