Women Boxing Archive Network (also known as WBAN) is an American-based women’s boxing website. The website reports women's boxing news, archives women's boxing history, publishes women's boxing results, creates their own women's boxing world ranking and profiles women boxers. The website was founded and is owned by former professional boxer (ranked number 1 in the world in 1979) Sue Fox; it began in May 1998. History In 2013, WBAN started planning for the inaugural International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame. Their primary mission is to "call honorary attention to those professional female boxers (now retired) along with men and women whose contributions to the sport and its athletes, from outside the ring, have been instrumental in growing female boxing." Women's Boxing
Although women have participated in boxing for almost as long as the sport has existed, female fights have been effectively outlawed for most of boxing's history until recently, with athletic commissioners refusing to sanction or issue licenses to women boxers, and most nations officially banning the sport. Reports of women entering the ring go back to the 18th century. Historical overview One of the earliest mentions of women’s boxing is in the travelogue of a German man who visited London in 1710. Anne Sophie Mathis (born 23 July 1977) is a French former professional boxer who competed between 1995 and 2016. She held world titles in two weight division; the WBA female super-lightweight from 2006 to 2008; the WBC female super-lightweight title in 2008; and the WIBF and WIBA welterweight titles in 2011. Myriam Lamare (born 1 January 1975, in Saint-Denis) is a French female boxer who won world titles in the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Federation (WBF), and International Boxing Federation (IBF). Biography Myriam Lamare was born to a French father and an Algerian mother. She spent her childhood in Aubervilliers, France. She left school at age 17, hoping to help support her family, and began boxing as an amateur because her parents did not have the means to enroll her in a club.
