Ghana is traditionally a powerhouse of African Football but the sport is believed to be dying due to lack of corporate sponsorship. Although popular amongst girls, many experience prejudice and discrimination. Domestic football After several years the Ghana FA implemented a Ghana Women's Football League. In 2022 the GWFL has finally gained television sponsorship. Since 2016, the Ghana Women's FA Cup is played as the top knockout tournament of the Ghanaian association football. National team Ghana have qualified for 3 world cups. Alberta Sackey and Adjoa Bayor are considered one of the best female players to come from Africa. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is a governing body of association football, based in Accra. Founded in 1957, it was dissolved with "immediate effect", according to Minister of Sport, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, on 7 June 2018, after the uncovering of a corruption scandal. In October 2019, a new president, Kurt Okraku, was elected and the association reconvened upon the completion of the work of the FIFA Normalization Committee. Mark Addo was elected vice president in November 2019. The Ghana women's national football team represents Ghana in international women's football. It is governed by the Ghana Football Association. Its players are known as the ''Black Queens''. The Ghana Women's FA Cup, is the top women's knockout tournament of the Ghanaian association football. The competition is played between the clubs of the Ghana Women's Premier League and Division One League. The inaugural winners of the competition were Police Ladies.
